Question about 1 mile

Need a little direction on a new rail for shooting 1 mile.

First........ the shooting will be done using a modern muzzleloader. Not grandpa's.
Second..... we will be limited using black powder or substitutes.

We've been shooting twice a year at Camp Atterbury to 1,000yds. I use a Nightforce ATACR on my 45cal custom and use a 40moa rail. Still it takes me 60moa to the target.

The question has been thrown around about the possibility of holding a 1 mile match. I'm in if they hold it!

Using my current chart, which is dead on to 1K, I will need much more than the 40moa rail to make it.

Nope........ not going to buy a wedge prism.

If I were to order a custom rail, using the chart below, what moa rail would I need?

assuming the column labeled "Drop (MOA)" is actually the elevation correction you are gonna need 185-190 MOA total to get to a mile.

Which model of ATACR do you have? some have 120, some only 100 MOA, which only half is useable without a canted rail.

If you want to be able to shoot a mile you are gonna need about 140 moa rail which will leave you with a zero offset at 100 yards. Roughly 90 MOA high at 100 yards. which pushes your actually zero out around 1200.

Farrell rails, the FG, is the only rail I'll purchase from now on. I get tired of being in a match and have the rail loosen from recoil and my day is ruined.
If a removable rail isn't pinned to the action I use JB weld between the 2, you can still get it off with heat but it's not something I'd do if you are changing bases back and forth.

Prism's are sweet but yes pricey along with needing a way to mount it. Prism gives the ability to add the extra and still zero at 100.

I like to epoxy bed the rails and haven't had one move yet, but can still remove the screws, stick a screwdriver through it and pop it right off.

I bed rails, but the amount of recoil the rifle has plays heck on rails, rings and scopes, especially when shooting SML. Example of recoil below when shooting smokeless propellant.0

Last August I had to send my ATACR back to NF for repairs. The erector system was destroyed in it along with the parallax.

The Farrell FG-Force rail itself won't move under all the recoil.

Wow. I didn't realize the magnitude of what you're shooting. Someday when you have time a detailed description and maybe pics would be very interesting. Unless you've posted it somewhere before, I'd be happy to have a link to it.

This might help :)
