Pros and Cons of the Remington Sendero

I bedded the recoil lugs on my two Senderos and they are both great shooters.
One is a 7mag and the other is a 7STW.

Have a 7mm RUM Sendero II, Only have 67 Rounds down the tube and so far it likes 86 of retumbo/180 Bergers to the tune of .6 and .5 's. @ 3020fps.
I did bed the front lug, and put on a jewell trigger though it has not effected accuracy that can be verified. It is really growing on me even though I'm used to Sako's(older ones). I'd like to trade out the ejector for a Sako--- type that would b my only gripe.

The 'Pro's'; The action has been used for many customs and has the biggest selection of after market parts. The H-S stock isn't bad, either. the 'Cons'; it comes with a P.o.S. Remington trigger and barrel.

How do you like the Jewell trigger on your Sendero?

The trigger on my Sendero just and I'm trying to decide if I should replace it with a Timney or Jewell, or just have mine repaired + a trigger job.

I have pretty good form(at least I think so) so a light trigger is just well lighter...I kinda liked the sendero trigger, I hear if you set it too low that it functions poorly so i was happy to shoot it at 3#. I just wanted that extra tiny bit of moa,,,,

I had alot of problems with my Sendero SF2.
Purchased in 2009
Returned for chamber issues, would not hold zero
Returned for locked trigger adjustment screws

Finally got it back, correct.

I have shot one hole at 100 yards and 1 hole at 200 yards for a 5 shot group with my reloads, but I REALLY had to tune the load in.

I suggest you buy an action and match grade barrel and have Montour County custom rifles put it together for you on a nice H&S Synthetic stock.
You will spend the same money and have a great rifle without all the BS I had to go through.

www.cameralandny.com has some very nice Zeiss 6.5 to 20 x 50MM scopres too - Rapid Z reticle in 600, 800 or 1,000 yard versions. Floor models at great prices. I got a Vermint reticle and have killed a good amount of chucks with it.

You HAVE TO skim coat the Sendero.

I shoot a 300 RUM sendero It wears a custom barrel now but when it was factory I could easily get it to shoot under 1 inch at 100 yards thats without any bedding . if you plan to hand load you should easily get it to shoot below 1 inch I usually could get the 150 Amax to stay 5/8 to 3/4 groups . I did have a rifle basics trigger installed . the only real complaint with the barrel was it would heat up and walk All barrels heat up but the customs want walk like the factory barrels or atleast that was the case with mine.

If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have bought a NEW sendero I would find me a used one and shoot the barrel out then go with a custom barrel . If you buy a used one then buy a custom barrel you want be that much over a brand new sendero price in the end. And you will have one heck of a shooter !

Mine is in .300 RUM. Braked and trigger job, but nothing else. Rarely does it shoot any better than this, and pretty consistently like this, which I am reasonably happy with, but not ecstatic about.

That is correct.
Find one with a good action, rebarrel it, blueprint it, get a great scope, and enjoy the ohhhs and ahhhs ,......

In order to touch my lands I'd have to be 1/2 inch over max COAL witch, is impractical and the bullet would hardly be held in the case....

Anybody else have crazy deep lands with the Sendero barrel?

yes mine and my shooting buddy have extremly long senderos
but they shoot real good
Mine is a 7mm remington mag and his is a 300 win mag
Dont rember what the last group he shot was like for sure But I know its 1/2 moa or better.
The last group I shot with mine was 5 shots touching.
I cant complain about the senderos at all.
Buying a used one and rebarreling it is a good idea but so is buying a new one and enjoy shooting it
they are not a custom built rig but the price is less as well.

My sendero requires deep seating. I must have a very long throat.
Also, I beleive I have one lane that is longer than the others. When I make a dummy round, and blacken the projectile with a lighter, I get one mark that remains on the projectile long after the others have gone away. Thats why I seat so deep.

I do get 5 shots through one hole with any round I have made so far (90 grain Sierra HPBT, 87 grain Speer TNT, 115 grain Berger VLD).

I've seen the same thing,not just my Senderos,but most of my Remingtons.
