New. 1949 Winchester. Model 70 300 H and H

I was able to pick up a 1959 made Model 70 Super grade in 30-06 a few years ago. It has a vintage Weatherby scope in great condition too. Special order wood and recoil pad to boot. It is a great gun but it would have been the "perfect" great gun if it had been a 300 H&H !!!

I know of at least 3 pre 64 Model 70's that guys I knew had them rechambered to 300 Weatherby Mag. This 40 years ago when you could still find them occasionally. Sometimes the gunsmith would stamp the barrel but sometimes not. I would like to see a fired case from the rifle before I would purchase one if I was interested in picking one up in that caliber.

So nice! I have wanted a pre-64 Model 70 in 300 H&H for about 10 years. Only seen two, but both were priced well beyond my means. I'll keep looking.

We just had 1 of the m70's and a remmy 725 at a lgs a while back (both in 300 H&H). I know 1 is gone; kinda forget which 1 is still there... I'll let you know how dear it is to them if it's the 1 that's there when I stop in again...

Thanks. I'd consider a 725. I don't plan on mounting optics so bolt lift won't be an issue. I'll be heading to a large gun show January 4th and 5th. Will have to see if I come with any funds!!

I lucked out on this rifle ! I was bidding on it ! So was another guy ! I've always wanted a pre 64 in 300 H and H! I never realized that there are three generations of of pre 64 model 70,s and that my 1949 is a transition model ! Then Winchester made rifle stocks with higher combs and less drop to accommodate rifle scopes ! I bid and won a Boyd's walnut stock for pre 64 M 70 so I can leave the original stock of my rifle untouched and all original !

Hi Harpec! It's marked 300 mag! That was the only 300 mag that was chambered in Winchester Rifles in1948 and 1949

I took a look and compared it to the only pre64 I own. I think it's a 50??
I didn't find any mounts but i think I have another stash in shop. Our power is out right now so I'm probably not going to get to it tonight

I did have a bunch that had two holes in front and one in back. I can grab screw distances tomorrow. There yours for free if they work

One of my favorite guns is the pre 64 in 300 H&H. My grandpa gifted me his as my first gun. Fun and smooth to shoot.
