Pronghorn opener

What a fun day. I'm whipped. Spotted this old warrior with tore up tip and prongs kicked out and couldn't help myself. Only 15" tall, but heavy by south dakota standards. Too much character to let him go. He's old as dirt and has fought his last fight! The 6mm PRC Primal absolutely crushed him. I was able to put the moves on this guy, so a super boring 134yd tripod shot... and the triggercam battery was dead so I didn't even get it on film. lol

He's all cut up already and I smell like goat. One of my all time favorite ways to smell!

Nice pics and write up. I'm headed to Montana next week for my first Pronghorn hunt. I have a digiscope for my Kiowa spotting scope but it is staying home. From your pics I am now interested in getting a fitting for the iPhone on the rifle scope. Any tips to share?
I have the swarovski model. It's spendy, but it seems to work OK. Most of the time I don't even bring it. I just stick the phone up there with my hands. It's a pain in the butt, but I've become quite good at it over the years.

I haven't tried the triggercam on a spotter yet. I think it would work on binos, but spotter oculars are too big usually.

Here in the video below you can hear the trigger cam beeping giving me the low battery warning with the pronghorn 150yds away... when he was still back behind the hill a bit. Then the camera shut off... a minute before I shot him. lol

Why is it the video from imgur only works about half the time on this site? Can you guys even watch the above video? I posted it the exact same way as I did the previous videos.

What a fun day yesterday. Didn't find anything I wanted, but it was a great day in the field.

Saw this one first. Little guy all by his lonesome at 1150'ish yds.

I always have tea in the morning. :)

Shortly after that, I spotted this one a little over 1300yds out. He was definitely worth a closer look.

I saw the general direction they were headed, and quick stuffed everything back in my pack. There was a nice wash they were headed toward, and I could drop down in that and get out in front of them without them seeing me. So I beat feet down in the bottom until I came to a nice spot where I could setup an ambush.

I lost sight of them down in the rough when I got there. However, I was fairly confident they'd come up toward me at some point. They certainly were not in a hurry.

There's nothing more satisfying than knowing animals well enough to predict their movements to this degree. It took them a while, but eventually they came up right where I thought they would. I got a great look at that buck.

Nice, but just not what I'm looking for. He had a little mass and had some height... but not much curl there, not very long prongs, and definitely not very wide. He wouldn't have scored well at all, but probably would have went 13'ish or so on length. Maybe 14. He gets a pass.

I spent the rest of the day out wandering around. Came across a few more small bucks, and 2 solid prospects that were way too deep to go for toward the end of the day. I'll see if I can hook up with them for a closer inspection a different day.
