Primer cratering & flattening

Flat primer, with ejector wipe…

Folks, 6.5x284 should not be run above 2900'ish with 140gr class bullets. Most of the time, I had them in the 2825-2850 range for best results.

Running another 100FPS+ over that is a sure way to experience erratic performance.

The throat is toast. Some rifles/loads perform best at the top powder charges.

The throat..cleaned.... VideoCapture_20221007-223017.jpg
Looks way better than the last 65284 barrel I removed for the ss barrel...

Using RL 23 and if he is shooting slowly maybe why the throat is still looking OK. A bore scoped rules out a carbon ring.

Personally my first move would be to reestablish the same jump distance as when your old tuned load and add powder to bring the same vel. Start there. If it looks like its going in tte right direction, close the jump (increase bto) by 0.002-0.003 till you see it start to open. Then back down one jump step.

I would shoot @200 yd on a consistent or calm day. It's a good distance compromise between minimizing wind and being able to better see group dispersion changes.

I can not see a hunting rifle 6.5x284 being cooked @600 rd. It's not BR/FC ripping off 10rd in 1-2 min. Especially when not using a high energy powder. I would expect 1000k+ .

Well..rockpit was sweet this morning...but heated quickly.....started at 36 degrees..shot for 3.5 hours..til' 11am or so.....both 280ai & P65284 shot as usual...each at 1moa or touch larger...
But...the L65284 just didn't come to land in same moa.....
First load...400yds
2moa (H)orizontal
1mo (V)ethical...
Second load....
3moa H
1.75moa V
Third load...
.5moa H
1.75 V

So...this rifle going into closet for the season.....

Here's the P65...2 loads shot very well..
20221009_114433.jpg
Original load is the triangle...only 3 rounds....52.5gr Rl23
Second load is the circle....4 at 1 moa spread ....52.3gr Rl23....
The squares were first rounds out of barrel.. 1.25moa H... .75 V

Oh yes......timed rounds today...
3 rifles at three different targets at 400yds......shoot one each rifle and drive to target..mark target and note pad....
About an average of 15 minutes between shots in each rifle....no hot barrels...very little if any warmth at all...

Thanks guys for inputs.....but Proof65284 get the call for the morning.....
