Powder Test 7mm Rem Mag

Concerning "hijacks" eh... sometimes it's good to pause and bs a little :D
I thought I posted the latest on the 7mm Rem Mag but I didn't see it here. I switched back to H1000 only I used an unopened jug vs the 15 year old jug (using that to fireform with now).

I haven't shot the load beyond 100 yards yet. I want to see if / where the 180's get unstable. I shot this back on 11/3. I added a tuner brake to it and that got the group size down to .18 @100 yards

7mm Rem Mag H1000 Group Size Comparison 11_3_23.jpg

Am at 68.8 gr of H1000 at 2912-2917 fps and .442 moa at 100, 200, and 300 yards, ES is 12 fps I believe. 26" barrel 8T. 180 gr vld-h. With 67 thou jump. I'd kept going up to 69 grs. Am not maxed out at 68.8 grs. With no tuner, hunting rifle.

I've got another series loaded to explore the area from 66.4 to 66.7. I want to see if 66.4 repeats the ES. If it does I'll use that and the tuner to bring the groups back in.

The weather and time to shoot hasn't been in my favor. Hopefully I'll get some time soon.

I may go up in charge after I shoot it but looking at the group size minimum values, they just keep increasing as powder charge increases. That could just be a barrel tuning thing but the ES goes south above 67gr too.

(edit: who am I kidding... of course I'll go see what's above 67. That's why I reload)

It's been awhile and I'm still messing around with the 7mm Rem Mag and a 180gr Berger Hybrid VLD. I shot a fine powder test yesterday (7.15.24). N560, the upper charge was right at max charge based on the data I had and I didn't see anything remotely resembling high pressure. Velocity was 2,760-ish at the top charge. I had two real good groups, .099 and .278 at 100 yards. The ES / SD for both of them was underwhelming. I'll upload the first target (3 shot groups) and the data sheet. The numbers at the bottom of the target is te outside to outside measurement. The spreadsheet has the group size in it. Middle group is the best one. 2nd best is on another target.

I'm trying to decide if I should move to N565 or just shoot another increment up because if you look on the Viht website their charges are lower than mine.

Thank you for posting all your information.

I have stayed with 140's in mine with my Hell's Canyon. IMR4350 has been my go to for it running 3250fps

I think you just ID'd the problem I'm having that isn't really a problem. If I try to push the 180's to 3,250 I imagine that there will be "issues" :) I'd like to see 2,900 but I'd probably have to "break" something to even get there. It shoots nice at 2,700. Good clean recoil with not loss of target view. In the old loads it thumped pretty hard and a lot of time was spent getting back on target. I switched to a Tier One bipod from my old Sinclair rest and that made a lot of difference too.

When I worked my load up with the 140's and imr4350 I checked every single round for pressure nothing appeared.
When I got it to put all the rounds into one ragged hole it was running 3250 on the chronograph.
The Hell's Canyon does have a break but you can shoot it all day with very little recoil and can stay on target.
It's the same way with my 7STW and it is is rolling past 3500fps with 140's and still can push further but I stopped when I found the best load

i'm going to reshoot the two sub 1/4 moa groups. I have a tuner brake on my 7mag. The original brake wasn't much of a brake. Once I changed to the tuner brake recoil was a lot more manageable plus I can skip seating depth tests if I want to. I didn't. I found a seating depth it liked then dialed the groups down with the brake.

61.2 grs and play with the jump. Or see if the turner will tighten it up.

I put my tuner break on and didn't even have to touch it
