What was the powder prices like? Was passing by so stopped at Simmons Sporting Goods in Bastrop LA. Limited to 2 lbs a person. They will not ship. And yes prices are high, but if you need it........
Wasn't too long ago, well 15 maybe years ago we would get 8 lb jugs of H-4350 for $130.00 to $140 so $16.25 to 17.50 per lb. When Obama got elected it went up to $189.00 and everyone was really upset.I have been loading for about 22 years now (not near as long as many of you), and I can't personally remember a time that I bought Retumbo, H1000 or any other powder of that nature for under about $20 a lb. In the last 5 I haven't seen it under about $32. Granted, 50-60 bucks is pretty steep, but at least it's starting to show up on shelves.
We can be grateful, hateful, upset or otherwise. Personally, I'm grateful it's at least available, and believe prices will start to drop some.
Ya, I started reloading at about 10 years old (2000, I'm now 32) for my single shot H&R .223, I would use my allowance from chopping firewood, cutting grass, feeding the animals and such to buy my components......so needless to say, I only bought my powder 1 lb at a time for quite a while ha ha, it was around $20-$24 for 1 lbers, such as the ones in the original post. By the time I was out of college and could afford 8 lbers, it was post Obama.Wasn't too long ago, well 15 maybe years ago we would get 8 lb jugs of H-4350 for $130.00 to $140 so $16.25 to 17.50 per lb. I just flew 2123 miles for two pounds of powder ...now I have to burn it up before I can go home !Hmmm, one way flight cost + rental car return to home + powder$ = Dangggg!
