Had a great time with my 8 yr old daughter. This was her first deer she took back in the September Kansas youth season. I was one proud dad. She placed a perfect head on shot with her pink 30-06 we painted together right through the boiler room at 60 yds. Deer ran 30 yards and piled up. She was all smiles!!

Took this tall, atypical whitetail in Wyoming this October. Spotted him from a position on a high bluff at 700 yards. Winds were gusting at over 30mph which would have made for an iffy shot, or a good stalk, given my location. I gambled that he would likely hang around and try for him in better conditions. I did manage to get some pictures through the spotting scope. Came back a couple of days later and he gave me a shot a just over 650 yards in a 5-10mph wind. Made a high heart shot with my 6.5x284 Cooper loaded with a 140 VLD. Full penetration(exit seen in photo), everything in between was mush. Dead after a 50 yard sprint.
Bottom WT and Mulie were taken in Alberta in November. The very old and heavy WT was jumped at mid day in a creek bottom. Decided to try and stalk him and managed to make a chest shot as he crossed an opening at 200 yards. Same week this mulie was spotted early AM well over 1000 yards. After a couple of hours of repositioning, managed a good chest shot, also, a little over 650 yards. Both these deer were DRT, and shot with the same rifle. I was pretty lucky this season!
(These deer were previously posted in another section on this site).

We had an exceptional year in Kansas. Hunted 4 days shooting 4 deer. A deer a day. No long range shots this year but had a great season. My uncle is top left, I am top right, my dad bottom left, and brother(and his 2 boys)bottom right. Calibers used were 270, 270 wsm, 6mm, and 25-06. All shooting Berger VLD hunting Bullets I developed loads for. All were one shot kills ranging from 100-360 yrds.

Well this is the last deer we harvested this past weekend here in Iowa for the opener.

We are only allowed to use shotguns with slugs/sabots.

This big fella was taken at 40 yds on a push and he actually would have been closer but he saw me move in my post. Long shots with our guns are 100 yds. If your setup is fine tuned with sabots and a scope, you could reach out to 150 yds potentially.

We had 9 hunters, 15 tags (there are 1300 bonus antlerless tags in our county available) and ended up with 11 deer this year.

Good luck to all still pursuing this season!

22, that's a very nice mule deer. Was that from eastern Colorado?

No, western Colorado. I was after a 200" + deer but they are not a everyday occurrence. I seen and passed on several good deer. I seen this guy on the last morning and decided to take him. It was at first light and I didn't get to much time to look him over but I could see his back forks were decent and I could tell he was pretty heavy. His right front fork is a bit weaker than the right but all and all I'm happy with him.

Took me 20 years to start hunting again, had the rifles but only seemed to get the time to shoot paper. This year headed upstate NY 750 miles away with my 30-378 weatherby 200 grain partition overkill?? maybe but when you pull the trigger you know something is gonna happen. Settled in and what appeared a respectable 8 pointer maybe 50 yards. Cross hairs on and that was it. I will be going again next year for sure..

Didn,t get a deer this year, on our Ontario hunts. Was proud to accompany my grandson when he got his second wt buck, a nice 6 pointer. Using his 3006 husqavarna with 180 grain nosler partitions.
A week later at our hunt camp, my 17 year old grand daughter got her second buck, a beautiful mature 12 point. Using her savage 7mm08 with nosler partitions.

Great to see the kids taking up hunting. Very proud poppa.old243
