Just bought a 257 weatherby from another member here, need some help deciding which brass to use for the life of this rifle. Going to be a 257 weatherby stock, and then rebarrel with a custom barrel staying as a 257, after that I'm not sure.

Anyways, Peterson makes 270 wby which is a single step down to 257. Easy enough and I've heard their brass is pretty good. On their website they say they'll have 257 wby headstamped brass coming soon, I've heard maybe middle of this year.

Weatherby/norma brass is nice since I can just buy a few boxes of loaded ammo to get me started have quality brass to use after that.

What's your guys experience in weatherby rounds with either or both? This first barrel I plan on running pretty hot, not worried about barrel life as I kinda want a reason to get a custom (mostly for the heavier taper than the pencil that weatherby's all have) and after that I'll be a bit more reasonable on loads.

I'll also accept any advice or load data you guys have on loading the 90 grain hammers or the Barnes ttsx (I forget the weight of that one) or accubond partitions. Powders and the velocities you are getting would be a great help, I'm not used to loading medium or light for caliber in a magnum so most of my powders are probably too slow minus maybe 2 of them.

Currently I have 7828ssc, imr4831, RL19, 24n41, N570, h4350, and a LOT of us869

It's got a stock 26" barrel now but the custom barrel will probably be 28.

Peterson is good stuff. I didn't even pull the trigger on the 257Bee I had. Bought all the components as well. I ended up going with the 6.5 RPM instead using Peterson brass. 257 Bee with 92 grain vs 6.5 RPM with 99 grain Hammers. I went with the 6.5 due to loading the 99's in my Grendel as well. Wanted to keep some sort of similar components.
Not sure if you seen this.

I shoot 95 gr. HHT using 69.0 grs. of IMR 4350. It has shot 3-shot groups at .277+- many times. My Garmin says 10-shot average is 3800 FPS with a 26" Hawk Hill barrel. I use the regular WBY/Norma brass. Never say the need to use anything else.

I did not see that, looks like a pretty fair price you got there. I can't afford it this month since I just bought the rifle with this month's fun money budget, but if they're still available in a month send me a PM and I'll take them then. Need to get a couple paychecks in the meantime

Here's a little bit of what I've found with Norma Brass and Hammers in my WBY .257 mag. I hope it helps.

Awesome that's great info. Can't see the top labels but I'm assuming that the 3.795 and 3.957 is COAL. That seems really long given the short bullets and long neck of the bee, is that just chasing the lands with the long freebore, or was there another reason you had for seating so long?

They are measured from the ogive with a comparator. I'd have to go look and see what the lands are for that bullet.

All 3 of the listed brass will serve you well. Ive only owned 1 weatherby in 7mm and brass was good. Ive used Peterson and ADG for precision rifles and they are exceptional brass. Both annealed from factory and very resilient.

My .257 WBY has a 1:7" barrel specifically built to propel the heavy/high BC bullets. I am experimenting with different powders (pressure testing) with the 163 Chinchaga. I am currently using Norma but will transition to Peterson when they become available.

I prefer Weatherby head stamped brass for my 257 Weatherby. I can consistently run 115 Bergers at 3600fps in a 25" barrel and still get multiple firings from it and print consistent 1/2" 5 shot groups as well.

Pretty cool to punch clean holes through 3/8" AR500 at 200 yards too.

Mike, What powder are you using? That is some screaming velocity for a 115!
