Peterson Cartridge adds Belted Magnum Basic Brass

... also avoid the need to grind the headstamp off with a Dremel. However, some might engrave it instead. Just saying for a friend ...

I've never formed a cat/cartridge from a basic/blank....is it hard to form a shoulder/neck from the straightwall case? Do you need special dies, or do standard ones work

Asking for a friend 😉

I don't get the humour...must be a yank thing.
I have a forming die set specifically for forming basic brass, or H&H brass into Weatherby cases. It has a hydro expander die, 2 dies for forming, one for 2.850" cases and the other for 2.550"" cases.
It has stepped neck forming dies and several expanders that are tapered to form necks from 257 through to 416, never came with a 458 expander.
I don't believe this set is made anymore. It cost me $500 way back in 1993.
Making sure you don't wrinkle the necks and don't over anneal is the key when changing the neck, it has to be done in steps. The shoulder is also able to wrinkle if you do it one step.

Cheers.

They also introduced 300wby after announcing the 6.5/300wby a week or 2 ago. I'd love to see them introduce 6.5rpm or 300wsm. I'm wanting to build a 300wsm or a 7rpm along the lines of what Swamplord showed pics of awhile back. I have a few 270's that I could be enticed into making various rifles off that case.
