No, the reamer will want to follow the old chamber. You have to cut enough off to bore a true hole for the reamer to follow. Most sporter barrels do not have enough shank for that.

It's a carbon 22" barrel and from what I can see it's about 1.675" of shank. I think I'm going to start over and order a barrel. I don't want to cut into the performance by shortening the barrel. 22 is already short for a Rum. I'll start over!
