Hi there-
I was cleaning my 300Rum today and used a teslong to see how it was looking. That's when I discovered partial rifling grooves that travels all the way through the freebore to the neck. These grooves are at 10oclock and 3 o'clock. The rest of the freebore is without the rifling and you can clearly identify where the lands begin on them. I've taken some pics with my phone(couldn't get the app to work for Teslong).
What do you experience guys think of this? The rifle has never been a great shooter and I haven't used it hunting since I don't have the most confidence in it. At best I can get a 3/4 inch group at 100. I've never had it out to beyond that yet but it's just not that reliable shooter that I'm looking for.
Question; Can I have a Gunsmith clean this up or should I cut my loss and order a new barrel? Btw, the barrel was chambered and fit to a trued rem700 action with PTG bolt.

That's what happens when the reamer isn't concentric to the bore. You could have it set back and rechambered, might work great or might be a waste of time and money.

Bring it up with your gunsmith, I'd think he would want to correct the issue and keep you as a happy customer. Mistakes happen and the great guys will take care of it.

I had a barrel with two grooves cut deeper than the other three. Chamber was cut concentric to the lands. But those two deeper grooves were visible across the length of the throat. Precision was unsatisfactory.

Barrel manufacturer said "Impossible. Not our fault." But when the bore was dialed in on the lathe, the indicator confirmed those two grooves were indeed cut deeper than the other three.

I gave up on that barrel. Life is too short. Was time to move on...

Depends on the cause. If those two grooves are deeper than the rest, I say rechambering will not correct that condition.

If the grooves are concentric and cut equal depths, and the chamber & throat were cut crooked, possibly yes? It would depend on how much breech shank remains, and how much time and effort the gunsmith invests trying to cut a concentric chamber into a pre-existing crooked chamber.

Without removing a fair amount of your existing breech/tenon and boring/truing up the existing remaining chamber, I think a chamber reamer will just follow the existing crooked chamber and re-cut another crooked chamber/throat.

I just found the same thing on my factory Sendero barrel 2 weeks ago. Went to Bugholes and ordered a new barrel. Just like you, I could not get much better than 3/4" groups at 100yds.
