Our Next Generation of Shooters

4 years ago I came up with a plan to not only honor my kids, but to honor their love for shooting sports. I have been secretly building wildcats off Weatherby cartridges and naming them after my children. On their 14th birthdays they have been surprised with a rifle that bears their name. It started with Zayne. I improved a 378 Weatherby and called it the 375 Zayne. Just this past year Zaylea received hers. A 340 Weatherby Improved I call the 340 Zaylea Ann. My youngest son Zandyr is next and he is getting a 300 Weatherby Improved and will be called the 300 Zandyr. Weatherby cases were the most logical because after I pass away they don't necessarily have to reload to still shoot their guns. Factory Weatherby ammo will fire just fine since they are all belted magnums. I form, shape, and finish the stocks and JE Custom does the gunsmithing.

Thank u all for sharing, us true gun enthusiast know that we are under attack all the time. Every election that nears is one step closer to loosing something else. To many squares don't pass along guns and shooting to their kids. It is up to us cause our kids will surely be fighting this same battle when we are long gone. U fellows, are some fine people!

I agree, these are some fine people hanging around here. I hope , though, that all of us realize what the end game is for those in our government that would make gun control laws . They dont give a flip about the little things they try to sneak by us in Congress almost daily. It's about taking control of our country . They want all the guns, period . As long as We The People on this thread and others that have our same mentality continue to have our firearms, Venezuela cant happen here . I'm sure you have seen the videos from down there of it's people fighting against the terrany of socialism with sling shots and sticks. They let their government take up their weapons in the name of peace and brotherly love. Dont drop your guard cause they want us to use sling shots next !

Well, I'm a Paw Paw and when I found out my daughter was pregnant with my first grandson I went down and bought him a Henry Golden Boy .22. I've since had two more grandsons and I have yet to buy them a .22 but I will I just haven't decided what to buy them. I also have a two granddaughters with another one on the way that I'll purchase .22s for. I'm probably going to buy a couple of single shot .22s, a black one and a pink one, to teach them with.

I've already bought the three oldest ones BB guns. My three yr old Granddaughter and 2yr old Grandson have already went to the deer lease with me and shot their BB guns hitting the little metal target which they both loved.

As for buying them more guns I'm not so sure...the tough part as things stand today is deciding who will inherit the few I've got.

My twin grandsons will be 11 years old July 1st. Years ago I bought a BB gun for them. I have possession of it and they get to use when they are here usually one at a time!
They have been caught one boy armed with the BB gun chasing/shooting at the other. They both missed separate matches I attend where they got to shoot!
Recently I noticed one then the other of my floodlights was 'out'.
Procrastination on my part did not discover this until about a month later. Soon they will be confronted with replacing and paying for the two floodlights.

The first pic is using the BB gun to knock down a Yellowjacket best that is out of range for the spray in a can!

Easy solution....buy yourself another 5 guns and they can all get one or two.lol! I currently have 8 grand kids and number 9 due in a few months...they will get 7 each so far and more before I go....great excuse to tell the wife..." But honey...they are for the grandkids...not me!"

I have a grandson three granddaughters and a grandson on the way. I have bought a M1 Garand from CMP that has the new Criterion barrel for each along with a Marlin model 60 and for the girls a Mossbirg 500 20 gauge and the boys will get a 500. 12 gauge.
I will teach them along with help from my children but feel that our rights are slowly being striped and you buy what you can now and pass it down to the next generations.
My personal collection will go to my kids and grandkids as I choose.
I personally think that the M1 is a rifle everyone should have in there possession and know how to load for. It is one of the most rugged and reliable semiautomatic rifles ever built and can take any game animal in the northern hemisphere.
That has been my plan anyway.

I've got a question for you guys, grandpas, that I've been wondering about...everyone is saying they are leaving X number of guns for each of their grandchildren. So if some of your grandchildren have absolutely no interest in guns, will you still give these grandchildren guns?

I have two grandsons, think they will both be shooters. The younger one more so at this point.

I have told my sons that all the guns go to them, with a few tagged to ultimately be handed down to the grandsons. That is if they can prove they will be respect them by handling them safely and carefully. Basically, not being an idiot...

It will be up to my sons to make that determination after I am gone.

On the other hand, they told me I could not take my guns with me, so I am working on a plan to stay here!

I have also been told by my sons, "We are stuck with you Dad, they will not let you in upstairs, and the devil can't handle the competition, we will have to wait for him to retire!"

Yup! The guns will still be part of their inheritance...maybe they will change their minds, maybe they won't and will sell them to buy something they really want more! That's okay..I will be dead and they will be happy! In the end that's all that matters.

I wish they had creemores when I was young. I could have used girl attracting power they have. Wonder if they work on the older women?
Not so much...I bought 6 this year trying to figure out which two I would keep .the rest for my son's...after the third arrived at the door...my wife started trading big long words for shorter 4 letter ones!

Well said. Hey , if your grand babies dont like guns when they are old enough to appreciate them, it's all good. Some granddad that didnt get the opportunity to collect these great symbols of American freedom will have grandbabies that get to take advantage of your collection when they go up for sale. As long as the guns wind up with someone's grandkids that will appreciate them, this great tradition will continue on.
HAPPY 4TH ALL !!

My kid has a CZ455 scout in 22LR that I have converted to peep sights and a front globe sight for 4H shooting competition. He took 1st place in the novice division in district which is the highest the novice kids go. He is 9 years old and going into the 5th grade so he has one more year of novice before he moves up to the junior division. Below he is practicing dry firing with an empty shell in the chamber. The second picture is him with his 4H medals at the district competition. He got first place individual and his team also got first place. He got 5th place in archery as well.

He shot a cow elk last year at 495 yards which he rounded up to 500 yards haha! He shot it with my 6.5 Sherman. He loved the hunting and camping experience so I am having his own 7mm Sherman MAX built this year and he has another cow elk tag. He is super excited.
