Optimum barrel length and twist for 223?

223 doesn't have enough ***** to over stabilize any bullets. now a 22-243 wildcat that's a diffrent story 35gr maybe even 40gr will turn to dust before getting to the target if pushed 4000 fps maybe a bit fasterlightbulb

Lighter bullets come apart in .223s with tight twists and higher MV. Greater dispersion from bullet imbalance, being spun faster than needed for stability may also be an issue .

5000fps in a 12 twist = 300k rpm
4000fps in a 12 twist = 240k rpm
3000fps in a 8 twist =270k rpm

With my 18" 7 twist .223 my 45gr tsx load is 3175fps that is about 326k rpm. So a .223 has plenty of power to over spin a varmint bullet.
