One Gun Hunters

LOL,.. Because, Elk just TASTE,.. way, BETTER !
And, WHY my Family makes them, our #1 Target,.. every Fall !
Plus, lots MORE Meat, to FILL, the Freezer !
Agree to call it a difference of opinion…. Regarding taste…. 😁

I do love my elk meat, and you win on the quantity argument, but my family just barely prefers mulie steaks over elk (it's very close). I've been brain washing my kids since they were old enough to chew.

When they have a restaurant steak or burger they turn up their nose and wonder why it tastes so funny.

Right now we get by with one mulie every year and an elk every other year. Kids are only 7 and 9, I'm assuming that by the time my 9 year old son is 12, we are going to need an elk and deer every year to avoid buying red meat (which we will NOT do).

I love hunting, mulie and bear especially, but grass fed Hereford or Highland beef will always be my preferred steak choice over all wild game options. 🤣 I know, that's probably sacrilegious on a forum like this but it's the truth.

You'd be hard pressed in finding anything better than the 7mm rem mag and the .300 win mag for a one gun for everything.....with the proper bullets both are capable of harvesting anything that walks in front of most guys....it's actually something I did, unloaded everything and settled for a .300WM in stainless synthetic with a 4x14 Leupold, actually nice not having to question myself on what am I taking on this hunt...don't miss all the hassle either...

Oldest Maxim in hunting: Hold on hair - not air. :)
I do like fiddling around with different loads just
for the fun of experimenting and because i love handloading and load development and trying new things. I know it's not necessarily practical but practicality has very little to do with any of this for me, it's fun!

But your comment here is just dead on the money! When I was younger I shot clean over more than a few deer. I've never shot under one as far as I know.

I completely agree with #2, which is why I think mulie hunting is more enjoyable (except for archery season, then it's elk all the way).
👍 late season archery elk hunting is a supreme challenge in SW Idaho. With the mulie rut in late November, ones success rate goes way up.
