I have a 260 Rem, 6.5x47, and a 6.5 Creedmoor all full higher end customs. I pay zero attention to what crowds use what. I got a Creedmoor to simply see where it fits into the hierarchy of 6.5s and I just love to reload and push cartridges to their limit. I prefer the 260 Rem over the others but the beauty of the creed is that about everywhere now carries some type of match 6.5 creed ammo if in a pinch on a hunting trip and what not. That is also what made the creed so popular I believe. Those that don't reload can go down to walmarts and get FGMM or similar very high quality ammo and lay down some very good groups. That is not the case with 260 Rem or 6.5x47. I love all guns!
I'm not a big fan of a lot of different calibers most are just relabeled rounds from long ago, but If someone likes it and wants to shoot it that's fine with me, I think most of you dont realize there has been a lot of big game killed with a 303 Enfield, why because it was what was at hand. The 30-30 has most probably killed more deer than anything else. If the person can shoot the rifle and is confident in shooting it and putting the bullet in the vital area that is far better than blowing the hind quarter off a elk at 10 miles with a 155 howitzer, (that's a joke). Dont ridicule people about what they shoot, shoot with them , have conversations about ft lbs of energy down range, you will be surprised that in a very short time they will come to realize the effective range they are able to effectively engage and humanely kill the game animal they are hunting.

I'm another person that's sick about hearing and reading all this bull about this 6.5 cm. I've been reloading and hunting for 45 years and have narrowed my rifles down to 5 that I think cover most all game in North America . If I had realized there is now a rifle you can by and shoot right out of the box, and is so accurate you can kill elk at 500+ yds with factory Ammo, I could cut down 4 more rifles. If you have ever chased elk because your friends 270 didn't drop him with 2 shots fairly decent, that I dropped with my 300wm with 1 shot. I really have not shot a lot of elk that stand around and give you a perfect shot, and same with deer since I hunt public land and not high fence. Personally I've never shot at an elk above 400yds, maybe I'm just a bad shot. I shoot regular rifles like sako, Browning, kimber, with leupold, or Zeiss., trigger work. My son has a 270 that he had since he was 12 and I made. Up loads for that shooting 160g noslers that he still uses taking mule deer, white tail and it screams down there.dropped 4 in there tracks. Maybe I'm old fashion I love mass and speed for knock down power. I really don't know a lot of people that hunt from a 1/2 mile away from there game except Iraq.

A 6.5 creed will not to perform to its fullest from an 18 inch barrel is what I meant. It's a good enough round and it works for hunting but it was designed from the ground up for competition. Assuming a 24 inch barrel it will outperform 308 by a fair margin in terms of reduced drop and wind drift past 7-800. In terms of energy on target inside of 600 yards it will not outperform 308.
All I'm saying is if I were setting out to build an 18 inch suppressor host it wouldn't be in 6.5 creed. People are building 16.5 inch precision rifles in 6.5 creed
. Some people like ice skating uphill I suppose

You will be waiting a long long time for me. I never have and never will fall for these so called magical, so easy its boring, to everything cartridge. I have been loading for over 40 years, and you can take pretty much any cartridge and make it shoot great. It is not the magical cartridge. Its the gun, action, BARREL,reloading of the shell. lots of things the shooter. You cant tell me that every person that picks up a creedmorE can shoot 1/4" groups. But when you read the forums they all can B.S. If you all are so good pack up your **** and go to some competitions and clean up. Have fun!

I own three .270's (A Ruger M77 mkII - my first gun, a Savage project gun that turned out to be too accurate to mess with yet, and a handi rifle that will probably become something else at some point) but did not buy the 6.5 creed when I was looking at something to help me get into PRS and production benchrest shooting. Instead I went with the 6mm Creed and would do it again in a heartbeat. I think it's the right case capacity for that range of bullet. I think the 6.5 upper-level weights are better served in a long action (30-06) or short mag case with slower powders. I also think that 6.5 bullets start getting interesting when they're HEAVIER than 140 grains. Yes, this tends to push out the venerable old .270 in my mind.
I think the long range (800-1200 yard) hunting market will solidify to 6.5 bullets at 140-160 grains, 7mm bullets at 180-200gr and .308 bullets at 215-250-ish grains with speeds around the 2800-3100 range. Can the 6mm get out there? Absolutely! And obviously all of this is animal dependant, but when I think about what makes for the best long range performance while still keeping some level of sanity, this is what makes the most sense to me. There's a lot to like about the Creedmoor IMO, but that doesn't mean I feel the need to pick one up. Now a Buffalo Classic Handi Rifle reamed to 45-90 on the other hand? I just couldn't pass that up!

The .308 would be hard to beat at that range and ammunition is very abundant.
