NX8 1-8 for a hunting rifle?

I have a red dot with a flip down 3X magnifier on a 7.62 X 51MM and out to 150 yards or so it will really surprise you!..It did me.If you can hit a beer can at 150 You can kill all the deer you want around here.

I've watched this thread for 5 days, this scope would be one of my last choices for a hunting scope. Reason being the reticle, 1.25 moa dot, coupled with what I call the shroud surrounding it, it obscures a lot of surrounding area. Throw in half moa, or .2 mil clicks, just getting a solid zero is not easy.
Of all the LPVO scopes I have owned, again, last one I would choose for pinpoint accuracy over 300 yards.
To the op, if you are really considering this, you owe it to yourself to seek someone out who has one and try shooting it. 1600 to your door for real limited possibilities.

Thanks for that insight, it's really what I was after. I think the magnification range is perfect, and the 1x performance is likely to be awesome, size, weight, etc all check the boxes. But I just have a hard time looking at that reticle as a precision reticle at intermediate distances

What would you recommend in that mag range?

None of the stores around here bring in these types of scopes and no one that I know has anything quite like it, so no way to really look at them before I buy.

Tough question on a recommendation, lol
I own this scope, on an AR 15, so it does what I ask of it, even though the rifle is 4-5 times more accurate than the optic can make it.
It replaced a VX6 HD 1-6, I really liked that scope, though it was pointed out to me the duplex rattled at 1 power. I bought a couple kids a Tikka Forest 243, and put the Leupold on it for deer and antelope, maybe even elk if close enough. Just enough magnification that they wont try past 400 yards w/o me present. To me, it was a **** good scope for the coin
Trijicon introduced a 1-6 Vcog this past spring, and if I had to redo, I would look hard at that optic for my use, but we are also now into 1800 optics.
Truth is, scopes topping out at 8 power is slim pickings. Lot of 1-5, 1-6, 1-8's are scarce.
I did not mean to mislead anyone here either, I do not have a problem hitting a 5" steel plate at 400 yards with 223 ammo using the NX8 on 8 power. Controlled situation though. It can only get better with bigger cases as long as the rifle is accurate, esp if there is a breeze and you can hold off the intended point of impact. To me though, after 400 yards, things go downhill fast, as spotting becomes iffy with the cluttered reticle.
Re-reading my post, I doubt I helped at all.
