Not impressed with ADG brass

Well, because so many people on LRH swear by ADG brass, I bought some for a 300 RUM and my .338 Edge. First thing I noticed was the AMP code generated for both was about 10 points lower than Norma or Nosler brass. I loaded some in my hunting 300 RUM but honestly didn't shoot more than probably five rounds. However, I used quite a bit in my Edge since my Nosler brass is getting long for the tooth. Suffice to say, ADG brass requires .75 more grains to get the same velocity as the Nosler cases, and pressure is much higher (judging from the stiff bolt lift). The ADG brass weighed 10 grains LESS than the Nosler brass, which has been loaded many times (and consequently had many case trimmings).

So I ordered some Peterson brass in 300 RUM; figured I could use it in my RUMs and just neck it up for my Edge. First thing I did was weigh the new cases against new ADG brass - the Peterson weighs 20 grains more. I loaded 3 with 90 grains of H1000 under 300 Bergers (my go to load using Nosler brass). I will shoot tomorrow - anxious to see the results.

I can afford to buy anything I want to become a better shooter, so the cost of brass is a non-issue. I see several members bashing Norma and Nosler brass, but for the life of me, I don't know why. Appears Nosler brass is made by Norma, at least the stuff I have, because the AMP Aztec codes are nearly identical, and way higher than ADG. For what it is worth, I have some Norma .338 Lapua brass which generated an AMP code of 170 - only 1 less than the 171 my Lapua brass generated.

I don't understand your thoughts. What's your actual complaint?

Norma brass is good.

New nosler brass is horrible. Old nosler was good.

ADG necks are a little thinner than lapua in my 300 prc and so Aztec code is 15 lower for ADG.

ADG handled higher nodes better than lapua also.

My actual complaint is that ADG isn't going to give me the same velocities as the Nosler brass. And I have heard that new Nosler brass isn't great, so that is why I bought ADG.

I would be interested to see which brand holds up to more firings for you. My guess would be ADG. Velocity isn't always the best measure of brass quality.

The only reason I am getting rid of the Nosler is because they are developing case head separation marks (I set the shoulder back 2 thou, so this gives you an idea of how many times they have been fired).

My guess is ADG cases are thinner in all dimensions, thus the lower velocity and higher pressure. Be interesting to see what the Peterson stuff does.

some ADG is decent the PRC and SAUM have been good for me but the RUM case has not been so good.
don't go by case weight go by capacity and ADG has all been lower than most others on capacity causing pressure problems.

Man i havent heard many dislikes about ADG. I've heard many complaints about Norma and Nosler, Federal, Winchester etc. But I've found loads that work great in almost any of the above mentioned headstamps. I honestly think there is so much acceptable components out there that don't get fair attention because we fall into this idea of status. I hate to see that ADG doesn't work for you but it doesn't surprise me. But then again, your idea of acceptable is different than another man's.

The Peterson will have less case capacity than most others. For example, new 280AI brass held 69.7 grains of water compared to the preset of 74 grains used by both QL and GRT. After four firings, sized brass capacity has increased to 72.8 grains. Just something to consider when trying to duplicate loads developed with other brass.

Just opened my 1st box of adg 7prc today and the prep on this stuff is crap. .005-.010 burr on the outside of every case neck that I now get to debur. I get better brass from Nosler seconds. Fortunately I only bought one box.

I will take peterson brass any day. ADG 6.5 prc brass made me a lot of trouble a few years. I'm sure ADG has some good calibers i just didn't find any.
