Looking for some knowledge. I recently had a .17 Rem built and I am having an ammo issue. The gun shoots Remington ammo amazing. But the Nosler varmagedon ammo won't chamber. I checked Sammi specs and this is what I know. COAL is correct, neck thickness is correct, and length to the start of the shoulder is correct. What is not correct is the length from the base to the end/top of the shoulder. It is 3/1000 shorter than sammi specs. In my mind, this would not cause the problem. Could it be the shoulder angle? Just trying to wrap my mind around everything. Side by side picture, remington ammo left, nosler right. Second picture shows measurement that should be 1.5305 according to Sammi

The two cartridges pictured have VERY different shoulder angles. Do you have a fired casing to compare them too?

That shoulder angle is so different I thought they were two completely different cartridges, the neck on the right looks WAY long. Could be the pic but it also seems like the neck on the right is thicker?
If the shoulder is too short then it would still chamber, if the neck diameter is too thick it could cause the round to not chamber. Either way, if the ammo looks like that I would be calling Nosler and asking some questions

The neck is definatly longer on the Nosler, but the COAL is the same. So does that mean the shoulder angle is steeper? I went back to the shop I bought it from and checked every box. They are all the same! Bad batch of ammo I guess?
Neck thickness checks the same.
Correction . Nosler neck .199. Remington .194.

Yes, if the shoulder/body junction is the same, the COAL is the same, then the shoulder angle would be steeper and the neck would be longer. I would call nosler about that, that's a completely different shape. Like, they put in the wrong sizing die kind of mistake. I'm not really sure what else would change the angle of the shoulder like that and have a pretty shoulder. If the die had simply gone down too far, then it would be the same angle but the shoulder junction would be down further.
That would be why it's not chambering. Theoretically you could turn the brass down and still use it, but that's still something nosler needs to fix.

The Nosler ammo on the right, is clearly not correct. 17 Rem cases don't look like that.

Not even close, its got a PRC shoulder on it. Did you email Nosler? They will take care of it. Thats a bad batch for sure.

Those cartridges as you say are night to day different. Easily seen with the naked eye. I would certainly be calling Nosler. I would bet the long neck is bottoming out in the chamber...
