Nosler Accubond Long Range problem

Roy launch those suckers LR will you. This thread is already well over 20 pages. Then we can move on the the next one(s).

My 175 7mm LRAB is falling apart...and... what's up with the BC!:D

Woo Hoo,

I am now really looking forward to seeing how the 150gr and the 168gr do out of my twin Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs! :D

I glad I had the opportunity to buy a bunch of boxes of them. :)

Great job Roy! Looks like those two nodes to me. I REALLY was not too sure the bullets would stay together? Wonder what the heck is up with the original problem that started this thread?.......rich

Hey Rich,
Did you find time to do an autopsy on any yet?

I haven't but was going to try something tomorrow. I'm glad I waited because I see Roy has solved the velocity question. I thought I might do some expansion tests at various velocities. What do you think?

Well, my Dad's rifle is now in the mix with the 150 alr also. He's got a factory remmy in 7stw with the brake and dbm. It has always compared closely with the sendero I had over the chrono's. Time to load and play I guess.
How sticky are these pills compared to the regular noslers in the bore; can I go up a bit on charge at the top or are they pretty sticky like the regular ones are??

Up to you.
I doubt we'll learn much by seeing a another picture of a cut up bullet, but the measurements could help.
Ya, Ol' Roy pretty well put that one to bed, so I'd personally be more interested to see how well they expand at lower velocities. But, that's just me. They are Your bullets. I wish I had more to send you for more such tests.
Sorry I only had those left on my shelf.

I'd vote Low velocity expansion tests, but you may wanna get more opinions of the people who posted here.
In the end it's up to you. Good credible info is good credible info.

I would also be interested in seeing how they hold up under high velocity impacts.

Don't get in too big of a rush to conclusion.

I think I'm beginning to see some things.

Settled on the 84 grain 3500 fps load and shot at 300 expecting the group to be a bit lower than the 200 ard group. Didn't happen. Was about 2" higher than the center of that bunch of 200 yard shots.

The group was 2 MOA wide wide and banana shaped. Left impact was side ways, but I'm questioning that. Too many holes in the paper.

Lowered the turret 6 MOA and shot a 3 shot group. The red one. Base to Ogive measurement with Sinclair Nut on all shots so far is 3.153".

This group is a 1.25 MOA triangle. OK but not within expectations.

Lengthened Base to Ogive distance to 3.170 an increase of 0.017" to see what happens.

2 shots went within 0.42 MOA of each other. Would have expected the 3rd shot to be somewhere in the vicinity. Couldn't find it? Expected the worst.

At the kitchen table, as I write this I noted the hole about 2 MOA over in Kelsey's pasture hidden in the red writing.

The 300 yard groups were shot @ 300 yds prone from a solid position.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

PS: If I can get a satisfactory load worked up I'll do terminal testing at full MV from 300 yards to as far as I can make contact with the media. The way I shoot that may not be very far.

I always weigh my bullets as I do all my cases and sort them accordingly. I have never had Accubonds vary more than 0.100" 140 gr usually weight 139.9 or 140.0 dead nuts on.

I push 140 gr AccuBonds approx. 3,145 fps with my loads and they are perfect. I shot them through a Remington Model 700 Sendero SF in 7mm Rem Mag (new gun in 2000 - not an SF II). At 300 yards, best 3-shot group is in at 0.778". Barrel has just over 200 rounds in it and I broke it in with David Tubbs Final Finish. Only non-standard element on this gun is a Jewell HVSTBR trigger set at 3 lbs. Best trigger period.

No one is disputing that the regular accubond is capable to 3500 fps+. My old stw would top there (my current rifle gets to 3400 with them) and the allen cartridges are good for another couple hundred fps. The lr accubond is looking a bit like it has a top speed issue of sorts and a few of us are going to beat up a few to try to get them to puke.

I just ordered some AccuBond LR in 150gr and 168gr. I'll have to test them out.

With the regular AccuBond 140 grain, 3,140+ fps is what I get consistently with 63.5 grains of IMR 4350 powder. I could kick it up a bit, but no need for the typical distance I shoot.

Look forward to hearing back on what you guys find out. I'd love to replace the 168 grain Berger VLD with this AccuBond LR. I like a polymer tip personally.

I havent chimed in up till now as Im planning to run these in a plain ole 270 win, so I would be interested to see some of the velocity expansion tests:). That being said the Sportsmans ware house here in Idaho Falls still had 3 boxes of 270 150 ALRs left a few days ago. The box I picked up wad 49.99 per 100 count if any body was looking as it seems these are gonna be hard to come by for awhile.

Roy your havin to much fun:Dgun) lookin forward to your further experimentation:cool:

Guys, check your lr ab pills for eccentric tips. I've found one already that isn't good for much more than a fireforming load as the tip isn't centered perfectly. My pills aren't factory seconds either......

update... ran the whole box over the table and had three that didn't pass muster/ too crooked. 3% bent tips is a bit high for a rather high dollar pill when even the 140 bt blems I got from shooters a while back had 0% bent tips.
