My thinking would be a bear . Was there any tracks in the trail or toe nail marks . There are around 13 subspecies of coyote and not one of them is big enough to do that kind of damage to your trap . We have a big mountain coyote that will run over 50 lbs. here and they can't do that .
No coyote hunting during deer season.

I didn't look too good. I run across the trap little after 4am. Batteries in head lamp going dead. I went back when I got time. I didn't see any. But it chewed down the brush. But at the back of the place they dump the dead trout out once a week. Mite been going to fish pile.
