Been looking into moose hunts in Newfoundland. Anybody have any recommendations from experience? Not really looking for horse means of travel, preferably ATVs or Argos. Don't mind fly in or boat travel to camp. Thanks for any info, also anything to beware of before booking.

This is literally the best outfitter that I have ever had the pleasure of hunting with. It is a 5 star facility in every way:
1. overall hunting experience
2. knowledgeable and friendly guides
3. game sightings
4. accommodations (lodge or remote camps)
5. food
6. overall satisfaction

And NO, I have no affiliation with RIL Outfitters. However, I am booked to return for another great moose/caribou hunting opportunity.

Do you do the land based trips or the helicopter trips? What is the difference other than flying or not flying?

I've only hunted from the main lodge on Red Indian Lake. The fly in camp cost about $2,000 more. That includes air lifting out your moose, I'm told. The camps that they drop you to have a cook on-site and are comfortable. One of the main advantages is that you literally begin your hunt from the back door. No reason to get up early and travel to your hunting location. The (fly in) guys that I spoke to were very happy and both killed their moose before the week was out.
The helicopter lands on the lawn at the main lodge to pick up hunters. It is a large, modern helicopter that can seat about 5 and has a large basket on the side to accommodate your gear.

Portland Creek Outfitters, They will give you a great hunt, they have there own float planes, Camps have a cook, showers, nice people. I have been on many outfitted hunt, they are on the top of the list, I have hunted with them several time and never been disappointed. Leonard Payne 709-898-6745, or Shelly Payne 709-898-7538. Give them a call. I have no connection with them except hunted with them. I would be going again this year but I have a goat hunt at the same time I would be hunting with them. Tell them you got there name from Lew in Minnesota.

I hunted with these folks in 2015, had a great time and everybody got a moose. It is a family owned and operated outfit. The older folks run the camp and do the cooking and their son runs the hunting.http://nloa.ca/of/snowshoe-lake-hunting-fishing

Correction, one out of five of us did not get a moose. We also took a bear.
