New Rifle comparison, please help

Interesting last few posts.

The .260 was never a thought but now may be. Could someone point me in the right direction of where I may find a good comparison / balistics, etc between the 260 and the Creed?

Also if I got a real wild hair and wanted a budget friendly build either in a 260 or 6.5 what actions could be used?

thanks for the info,

MB

PS relaoding isnt an issue

Ballistics are almost identical. I saw a guy with a Creedmoor and a 26" barrel push a 140 a-max @ 2910. factory Hornady ammo with a 24" barrel is 2710. Factory with a 130 is a hair over 3000. Their really isn't enough difference between the to to quibble about like most people do. A lot of 260 fans get their hair all up just at the mention of the 6.5 Creedmoor. I personally like it better. I like that the casing is shorter without really sacrificing velocity.

Yeah and also kiss your barrel life goodbye...... also you have to fire form all your brass and good crap like that. Its easier for the average guy to do the Creedmoor. The Creedmoor would actually fit the bill nicely for what he said he would be doing. He don't really need anything bigger.

Actually Rich said he's getting surprising barrel life out of his 6.5 Sherman and 6.5 SS. Can't remember the numbers, but it was impressive, to say the least.

He also said that he wasn't custom building a rifle. He wanted something off the shelf. And last i knew you had to build a Sherman....... Their are plenty of good rifles that are on the shelf chambered in a Creedmoor.
Hey, I'm not hating on the Creedmoor, it's a good caliber. I was just stating that MV & ME are alot higher with the Sherman, which is a fact.

Off the shelf, a rifle in 6.5 Creed or .260 Rem should be fairly easy for him to find.

+1 on that. That's really a great attribute to this cartridge and also why i shoot it as well. The brass issue isn't a big hang-up for me because i know that its coming. With Nosler making it, everyone else won't be far behind....
Nosler doesn't actually make their own brass. They contract that out to Norma, which, as we all know, is one of the best brass manufacturers there is. Norma simply headstamps the brass "Nosler" instead of "Norma"...That's the only difference.

And i dont doubt that the sherman is better than the Creedmoor in terms of velocity. I was trying to stay on what he had for an agenda.

interesting article, thanks

So for off the shelf 6.5 creed, I see Savage offer one in the 16/116 line with a 22" barrel.

For general hunting (deer, antelope, coyotes) would this be a good choice.

and in general from what i read the 6.5 creed will make an excellent hunting round, correct?

Its a superb deer and bear rifle. I shot a 315 lb black bear with my dads and he went right down. Shot several deer with all not going very far. My dad shot a 200lb+ Monitoba whitetail and it only went 20 yards on a straight on chest shot with a 140 A-max (not recommended for hunting btw). Both my sisters shot their first deer with it. one dropped where it stood and the other 80 yards on a gut shot. I've taken crows and woodchucks out at 300 yards with it with only a 3-9 power leupy scope. We can both hold 1/4 Moa @ 400 with it with that same scope. So yes very capable hunting cartridge. Saw a guy take an elk @ 600 yards with one. he didn't go anywhere. I currently have a Ruger predator in a 6.5 Creedmoor on the way. Should be here tomorrow or friday. I will be giving a range report after my break in process.

Savage also offers the LRH in the 6.5 Creedmoor. I was thinking that one till i came across the Ruger. Also, Savage makes a Predator in the 6.5. The LRH has a 26" with and adjustable cheek piece and muzzle brake. The predator has a 24" barrel with camo stock. I've heard that both those rifles shoot lights out. The longer barrel will give you some extra velocity.

Yeah it kind of sucks in that people who understand longer barrels give higher FPS are semi suckered. It is still a good rifle, just not going to give a same chambered round that 50 fps increase.

Ya i read 26" but forgot to take the muzzle brake into account..... A muzzle brake isn't really needed for that caliber though.

Thanks for the continued info.
I am very interested in the 6.5 creedmoor.
Is there a prefered barrel length for this round ?
I was looking at the 22" Savage 116 for a lighter carry rifle?

My dad has a t/c icon precision hunter in a 6.5 creedmoor and that one has a 22" barrel. I like the 24" just for the added velocity. My dads rifle shoots 1/4 moa or under @ 100 yards
