New Garmin vs Magneto

I had a chance to shoot with some friends using the Garmin, it worked quite well, but did pick up shots in other lanes which messed up the average velocities. I still prefer my Magnetospeed, but mine is mounted on picatinny or Arca rails under the forearm, not the barrel. I can shoot as much as I want without it affecting my zero or poi, and it will not register any shot but mine. I'm much happier with it. I do recommend mounting the Magnetospeed off the barrel if you want to shoot groups and record all of your shots.

Do you remember the name of the company that made that system?

I made several of my own, here is what I finally came up with to fit pretty much anything.

I have heard there are a couple on the market but I have not looked at them lately.
Need to fix that.
It appears your not the average backyard tinkerer!Well done.
Thanks,
With all of the picatinny rail and scope rings available, you can use 1" aluminum tube and a scope ring or two to get the job done.

How close were the other lanes? I have been using my Garmin for a couple of months now and have never had it pick up a shot other than mine, even with the benches to the left and right of me being occupied.

We again use the term "Standard" when questioning a chronograph. Much like a comparator they allow one to monitor changes in your rifle/load. Comparing results side by side with another unit can satisfy us that it is working and close enough. We can verify speeds with on target results at longer range. If the long range results vary from predicted do we tweak the velocity or the bullet bc? They are a wonderful tool and the suggestion to fire a know load to verify acceptable range is a good one. Now we get to the hated Hornady pod casts, how many shots to establish a base? My suggestion is to use and enjoy the added information. In the world of precision, out side the shooting community, measurement tools require frequent calibration. Mic's, torque wrenches etc. Most of use are using tools that have not been calibrated since they left the factory and they are quite adequate though not absolute. To bring up an old quote, It ain't rocket science. Enjoy the added convivence.
Kind regards

The Garmin is way more efficient, totally agree. Way faster and also nice not to have the point of impact changed. Across the board with the Magneto I generally see a change of 1.5-2MOA difference as far as POI, however the groups still seem to hold good. As far as comparing the two instruments against a universal standard value, that I really don't care about. All I want to do is be in the ballpark, and let my validation sessions be the judge. And these devices seem to always hold true as far as that goes. Paper doesn't lie
