New 7mm cartridge from Federal

Most could use their brain. If doesn't sound safe or good to them then wait and see. I'm sure Fereral has done their testing if not, they have problems. I'm not interested in the cartridge at all. I don't shoot short barrels or cans. I have to get my velocity gains from powders and barrel lengths. I'm already deaf. As far as marketing, common sense I guess. You're correct on foreign ownership. If Federal is foreign owned then I totally agree. I know some of their ammo is made in Mexico.
Maybe hate was too harsh ? 😉
I was apprehensive about posting. I should of listened to my first thought... 🙄
Thanks for your contribution 👍🏻

Lol…I believe we would be hunting buddies if I lived in Wyoming

This has nothing with hate. Sarcasm yes.

My issue is not with new technology, I adopt as much as the next guy. Nor am I questioning safety.

My issue is dilution of market offerings, and the market's ability to sustain these durable assets that we acquire. You or someone you know is probably shooting a 30-06 that was their father's or grandfather's or great grandfather's. Call it well over 100 years. Is one of your heirs going to be shooting your 28Nosler, your 7mm PRC, 300BLK etc. 100 YEARS FROM NOW?

But go buy WSSM brass now, SAUM brass now. Good luck.

The recent rifle roundup in Rifleshooter magazine showed 72 new rifle listings:
0 rifles in WSSM
0 rifles in SAUM
0 rifles in 338WinMag
4 rifles in WSM, all 300WSM
Only 4 rifles in one of the hottest new shiny nickels of recent memory, the 28 Nosler, but zero in the other Nosler chamberings.

But 2 chamberings that generations of hunters have used for basically everything under the sun; 30-06 and 270Win. These showed only 18 each of new rifles being offered out of 72 new rifle listings. Only 1 out of 4 new rifles.

Wow. What are we doing?

Agree 100%, and looking forward to suppressors coming off the NFA. Will it happen? I don't know about me, CA doesn't currently allow an NFA tax stamp, so as long as suppressors are on the NFA I'm not sure that will happen.

We should all be hunting with suppressors, it should be the norm.

I do think your previous post was spot on. America is where innovation happens, in many things, and cartridges seem to be one of them. For people that don't care for that, there's plenty of existing cartridges. I doubt you'll throw your RUM rifles away, and neither will my friend. I wouldn't be surprised if he buys more of them. His 17 year old shoots a RUM,

Happy hunting!
Don't get me started with California. I used to live there... 🙄 I wish suppressors came out when I was young. I'd of been all in for that. Unfortunately Ca. Thinks suppressors are for criminals and gang bangers . Gov. Newscum needs to be gone or in prison. I won't get in to fires there.

Ive hunted buddies property in Corona N.M. twice. He wants to go there this year. I'll invite you if you want. Mostly a mule deer hunt but last year he had elk on property. Two big sections. Anytime you can make it up here if draw, we'll fill your tags.

I don't understand all the Hate and sarcasm. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy anything. I don't care if it's Federal, Hornady, whoever. It's American enginuity, invention, competition. I don't see China , Russia, whoever I inventing new cartridges, rifles, powder , whatever. Let alone a car or truck , rifle, etc..
Keep buying that Chinese junk and supporting the Red army.
Checking out of this thread. Getting redundant.
Why all love and support for a Federal Product…?
And which cartridges are you shooting aren't working great as is?
Us skeptics have seen and heard the new product claims, promises and hype….all those 308s out there didn't suddenly stop being fantastic because the 6.5 Creedmo showed up.

In the olden days guys "wildcatted" if it had merit it would fly…many wildcats are still with us…the consumer led the industry demands not the marketing departments.

That's why the skepticism and sarcasm.

I'm with you. Very hard to believe barrel life won't suffer.
So the 280 and the 28 nosler operate at the same pressure but the 28 nosler eats barrels. Larger powder column and longer combustion and more velocity. Personally I would think it will be closer to say a 7mag because of the increased velocity but not as bad as the 28 nosler because of the smaller powder charge. In a video they claim it's similar to the 280 but I'm a little skeptical. Still the average hunter will never see it.

In one way I agree, and I've been p.o.'d for years because my Dad had a Browning 30-06 that I wanted, but the family has no clue what happened to his firearms that he <cough> gave to his brother-in-law (my uncle).

But I have to ponder, haven't the modern cartridges been built on stocks and chassis that may be around even longer? (if the world even exists)

Doesn't seem like carbon stocks are going to deteriorate and fall apart like wood did. I love wood, but it has some issues, but I love working with it. I like working metal as well, both are satisfying. I am going to make at least one wood stock that I have a piece of redwood to use for it. Hopefully it is not too heavy as redwood is light, but this piece doesn't seem too light and it's been drying since it was cut, pulled from the Eel river in NorCal. A high school buddy fished the base 60' of a redwood tree, 11' wide. It was during a big storm, the tree was gonna fall in the river so he set a choke on it and it swung against the bank when it blew...later he took his Boston Whaler and snatched it. He got 20,000 board feet from it, and I have a piece he gave me about 10 years ago. To this day, I tell people, he's the best fisherman I know. A 60' redwood is a heck of a catch! 👍

What consumer led demands have ever been innovative and a step towards the future? Adding a 40° shoulder with minimal case taper is hardly innovative.
