My son has a remington 700 in 300wm. He's away on a job and asked me to work up a good deer load for him. He sent me a box of Barnes 180 grn TSX boattails. I'm guessing that R22 will be the powder of choice.
Anybody have a favorite load using these bullets and R22? Right now I'm a little pressed for time so I'd really appreiciate finding a good accurate load right off the bat. Thanks, Dave

I use RL22 with the 168 TSX and 180 Accubound i cant get you my load its in the shop and its pouring rain but will post up Barnes data for you here it comes next post.

Shoot me an email thats the only way I could get this posted. I like to start the Barnes about .025 off the lands seems to work well They like a jump in the ones Ive used anyway.

mine likes 79gr 4831 and the 180 ab seated at 3.34 av vel 3106 es 13 sd 6 this is a hot load so i would start at 72gr and work up even though i have not had any pressure signs this out of a 26 in hart barrel it will group under 1/2 in my rifle

I use 78.5 gr of H4831sc great load. with the RL22 i use 79.5 both are good loads. My gun like the H4831sc better for some reason. Both loads are AOL 3.34

Good Luck let us know how it works out

Im shooting 76 4831Sc with the 180 AB also...

HEY I HAD THE WRONG LOAD HERE!

The load I post with 78.5 was with a 168 TSX..

I can't believe you fellas are getting to nearly 79 grns with H4831 and 180s. Book Max is 73 and I get a sticky bolt when going over 74. I bet your pressures are very high.

Good Luck

h4831!!

168 TSX 76.5 grs, of H4831sc is a max load in my 300WM ,be careful!! Exspecially if your using nosler brass!

not to rain on someones party, but i've seen a few posts where guys were having problems with rl22.velocity from shot to shot varried too much.i've decided to stay with hodgdons extreme powders.h4831 and h1000.have used imr 7828 with 200smk for a real good load also.my .02.jason

I've given up on using RL22 in anything. It never gave me the best accuracy in any rifle I tried it in and it seems to take about 50% more effort to thoroughly clean it out of a barrel. Plus, it seems to vary more from lot to lot than some other powders. In the .300 WM I'll probably be using IMR4831, IMR7828ssc or H4831sc from now on.

I love RL22.....???

Suggestions for 300wm

I think that I have tried most of the popular powders listed. I have come to like H-4831sc, but have to load it to 77-78 grs. for good accuracy and velocity and that loading is way over book which makes me nervious, even though none of the traditional pressure signs have been noted. I have since settled on H-1000 in Lapua brass, Federal GM 215 m primers. I load enough powder for around 3050-3085 fps. I get ES on the average of 10 fps. and SD's of 2-7 fps. Plus very good to outstanding accuracy from a 25" Hart. I have been getting about 7-8 reloads from the brass, so I don't think the load is over the top. Best of all the velocity stays very consistant in temperatures ranging from 24 degrees to 93 degrees. No lie! The once fired Lapua brass holds 2 grs. more water than a once fired Winchester case from my chamber, so it takes a little more powder to reach book velocities. I am loading 180 Partitions and 168 gr. TSX's. The Barnes bullet is a real killer but IMO a little to tough for deer. The Nosler seems to open up better and still pass through. FWIW!

I use Win. case's, Federal 215 Primers, and 81 grains of H-1000 behind the 180 TSX.... The Extreme spread is single didgits and very consistent
