So I'm really wanting to rebarrel my workhorse...Surgeon 591 in .308, 20" 1/10, #10 MTU fluted, AI 2.0 folder. I've had it and been shooting it for 10 years now but now I want to change it up...keep the action and change everything else essentially.

Shoot me some ideas please!

I just bought a Proof bbl yesterday just in case!

6.5 PRC won't work with this SA though right? OAL is too big I think.

Depends on your bottom metal situation. The non mag bolt face is more of an issue. What about 260 ackley?

I generally have good luck with ~20" barrel 260 rem. If you get something like the arc magazine you can seat long enough to get 140/143/147 up around 2700. I have also heard good things about 6.5 addiction if you are not against more wildcat type cartridges. Other possible ideas are the 6.5slr or 7saw for easy brass forming wildcats.

I love 284 for all around long distance shooting, but mine are all built off long actions. But if your magazines can handle it or you single feed that is a good choice. Very accurate out past 1000 yards (at least on paper/steel) with higher bc bullets.

Done.

I went with 24" Proof 6.5cm in a Magpul. Got it back today and leave for Colorado Monday (using my CA 300wm for Elk there) but head to Nebraska for Mule deer on the 15th. Hope to have this 6.5cm broke/dialed in for Mulies there.

Thanks for the input.
