Never dissuade a man from an equipment upgrade, however before declaring a barrel dead with likely less than 4k rounds through it I would give it a good deep clean with Hoppes Copper Solvent and check all screws along with bedding. Once the barrel is squeaky clean run bore scope or simply look with a bright light. Fire cracking or severely worn leade confirms time to change, but we've saved more than a few with a good soak.
