Mystery Ranch and Yeti

Another big corporation absorbing little corporations. I have a mystery ranch pack and it's quality. I'm sure that is now in danger.

Yeti coolers look cool. I'll give them that. That's where the quality ends. The insulation on the bottom is way too thin. If you want to keep stuff cold for days, many brands, including Engle, beat Yeti hands down.

Engle coolers have been around a lot longer (1962) and beat them out in every ice test.

I have two Engles and a DC powered Engle fridge/freezer that pulls almost no amps. I love it.

In 2005 I wrecked a Land Cruiser in Tanzania and the 1980's Engle DC cooler/fridge in the bed was full of broken bottles, but didn't stop working.

I'm an Engle fan.

I've had fantastic luck with Yeti coolers. Including falling out of vehicles and rolling down the mountain and still in great shape. They hold ice as well as any other cooler I've tried…or better. Yeti did a great job normalizing robust coolers.

I will say though…Yeti is focused on the REI types and the bottom line rather than sportsmen's needs. That does concern me when it comes to mystery ranch and their packs.

After watching the OP's video, it looks as though they want to become a DOD contractor. Who wouldn't? They can charge whatever and the DOD will pay it. Take a look at the made in USA mystery ranch packs. Way over priced…like everything else the DOD pays for.

I have considered the Mystery Ranch Metcalf but will not any longer, not a Yeti Fan.
I'll stick with the EXO packs, made right here in Idaho. Just have to make a point of buying American when possible

That's why they aren't going to stop selling mystery ranch military packs. The .gov contract money is to good, and they are made in the US.

Berry compliance.

That's sad to hear. I used Mystery Ranch extensively while working for Uncle Sam and now have three different packs of theirs that I own. They are the best packs made in my opinion. I hadn't heard they sold out. I really hope they stick around and the quality remains the same.
