My New Long Range .338 Lapua

That's awesome Jeff! Bought a Mark V in 300 Weatherby so I'd like to stretch it out. Gotta get a scope to top it though first!

I was thinking 210s, but do you prefer 190s for some reason?

Don't have any spare Nightforces laying around do you? :D

I use my 300 for a lighter carry rifle and have a Lupy on it with a BC reticle. I only shoot it to 550 yards. If you are going to shoot farther I would go with the 210's and H-1000 or H 4831 to start. Seat them as long as the box will allow. Pick the load that shoots most accuratly with the lowest deviation in velocity. 2800 up what ever you can get without pressure signs.

Nope, no extra NF's. sorry. :D

I have IMR 7828 that should do fine, gives over 3k fps with 225 grain bullets as far as my loading manual says.

How much powder would you start with under 210 Berger?

What?? How much 7828? I have seen it blow primers out with 83 gr and a 180. And who makes a 225 gr .308 bullet?

Jeff

Lemme go check...doesn't say maker of bullet.

81 grains for just over 3000 fps and 52400 CUP...max is 65k and primers blow at somewhere around 80k right?

81 grains is a pretty stout load of 7828 is a 300 Wby with a 180. I would not try this with a 210 and especially a 225 if someone even makes one.

Here' what I see in the Nosler online reloading data. 200 gr Partition or AB. 300 Wthby
Powder: IMR7828
Charge Weight (in grains) - Muzzle Velocity (fps) - Load Density
83.0 - 3028 fps - 95%
81.0 - 2943 fps - 92%
79.0* - 2858 fps - 90%

I have in the last year seen 82.5 grains of IMR 7828 with 180 gr bullets ( Bt's and TSX's) blow primers out in a factory 300 wby and a Sako chambered in 300 Wby. I would sneak up on the 83 grain and a 200 load.

JMO.

I'll definetly load a couple at 76 or so and work up looking for primer flatness and bolt lift stickiness.

Does your Mark V show pressure signs in the bolt lift or anything?
