6.5 Creed is a pretty easy on the shooter (recoil wise), and there is a ton of components for loading and excellent factory ammo if you want the easy way out.
A lot of components and factory ammo available for the 308 Win too.

I did and I'll try and get in touch tomorrow. I'm on the home stretch of getting hay finished for the year.
In 1979 I won the Ohio State and Region Three Championship (IHMSA) with an XP-100 chambered in 308 x 1 1/2" built by Fred Sinclair. You won't go wrong with that caliber. Although I never hunted with it or did much bench work, in those days I could keep most of my shots on a tennis ball at 200 Meters. It is one of those "inherently accurate" rounds that is easy to load for and packs a pretty good punch with minimal recoil. Pretty sure I still have the forming and loading dies! Back then Hornady Interlocks 150 and 180 grain were the go to bullets. Good luck with it!
It is a fun one to shoot.
I picked it up used on gun broker, and it was an a rear grip configuration. I then had Mac's Gunworks south of Gillette install one of their brakes on it. A good friend of mine from church worked on the stock that had major problems and bedded it. I have shot it out to a grand with it on steel.

That being said I had a .308 (standard) xp that just didn't quite do it for me and built a .284 win out of it. It shoots better than me and I loved the chambering so much I had a rifle built as well. Of course if I were in the money I would an xp chambered in EVERYTHING. They are inherently more accurate than most rifles due to the lack of overall barrel harmonics due to the shortness of the pipes. Roll the dice with what you want to do with it, BUT, be careful; once you get the hang of these things........they are addicting.

It's to late for me. Mine started with Contenders. Then with a lot of phone calls to the 5 letter guys I finally felt comfortable enough ordering a bare mouser action and built my first bolt pistol. It was a dream to shoot in 7x57 and smoked a doe the day after I semi finished it. One of these days I'll put it back together in a better stock.

My first XP was 35 Remington-I'm helplessly smitten with the 35's, and can't imagine one disappointing you at the 100 yards you mentioned. If building, mine would be 358 Win.
