My 6.5 x 284

That's impressive considering the wind challenge. At 1000 alt , 70F my load calls for 44.5. The furthest I've taken game with my 6.5x284 was a doe antelope at 1188 yards. It was DRT with a chest shot. Used a 142gr JLK VLD.

Thanks Greyfox,

I'm not thrilled with the results. I thought it would have been better. I'm going to try again this week. I don't understand why the calculations were so far off.

I have come to the conclusion the last time I shot, I enabled my conditions as "Absolute" which it computed I was at a higher elevation than I was really at! I was running the numbers tonight and confirmed this.

We went out to shoot this afternoon/evening, so I got the chance to foul my rifle before deer season. We were shooting 1475 yards. The conditions were great. Wind 0-4 mph@900 o'clock, 28.43 Baro/55 degrees/58 % humidity. Range confirmed with Leica 1600. Kestrel 3500 for conditions. Loaded conditions into Ballistic which computed 43.59 U/4.67 L. Shooting from a clean bore, 0 for 5, no hits. I kept taking wind out, this wasnt the problem. Ended up coming up 1 MOA and hit bottom of plate. Reevaluated my conditions, used 29.92 for Baro, everything else stayed the same. Ballistic computed 45.68 U/5 L, I used 45.5 U/5 L. Bullet impacted to the right of center between 1-2 o'clock. Fired another and hit right, 3 o'clock. Fired a third and missed right. Took a break while others shoot and then fired one additional round. Hit between the 1 and 3 o'clock impacts.

So now confused as to why changing my Baro from 28.43 to 29.92 changed my POI 2 MOA? Absolute was not enabled. I didn't think it would have that much of a difference!!! From now on 29.92 will be what I use!

This is a 24" plate.

I shot this buck on the PA opening day. The buck was standing at 825 yards in thick brush. I initially saw him around 11AM and got set up to shoot. Dialed my elevation and windage (15.75 MOA/.5 MOA L). I dry fired on the buck and then got ready to shoot. As I did, he laid down. Four hours later he got up. I got back on my gun and squeezed. I rushed the shot while he was standing in the brush, miss. Shoot again, I hit and rolled him. He starts doing a slow walk on a tram road. I'm getting frazzled at this point. I add another .25 MOA elevation as he moved to 835 yards , he stops, and I send another. I see him hunch up in the scope and take a dive on the ground. Thinking ok good to go. I get across the valley and up the hill. I come upon the deer and he is still alive. Ultimately, I had to finish him off.

After the fact, going over this in my head, I realized I didn't return my turrets to zero. I go look at my scope and come to find out my windage is at 1 MOA. This would explain why both my hits were far back and not in the vitals. I accidentally added my windage in twice. Once at 11AM and again at 3 PM when I shot the deer. Shoot and learn!

I haven't shot this gun for awhile, March of 2017 to be exact. I never had a chronograph before and was always estimating my fps. Bad idea as this had cost me game and unexplained misses at longer distances.

I bought a box of these and wanted to try them out:

Fouled the barrel before testing the above bullets. (140 Berger VLD Hunting @ 600 Yards)

All speeds confirmed with Magnetospeed. I need to update my Ballistic App. Looking back, to date, this is probably my best group with this rifle.
