I've taken 2 radial brakes off , and put on muzzle brakes and more . I can't believe the difference . I have a 4 port beast on my 338 lapua , and a older design 4 port with top holes on a 300 wby . the way the ports are shaped on the beast brake , top holes are not needed to control muzzle rise . both of these rifles are a joy to shoot . you can spend a bunch more money , but I doubt you'll buy a better brake than the beast .

There's a lot of effective and reasonably priced muzzle brakes out there to choose from and the radials (holes all around) would be my last choice especially when shooting prone.

As stated before I run them on everything even my .223's and 6x45.
By far the best I've ran is the Kirby Allen's. My .375 is pushing the 400gr laser at 3180fps and is a peach to shoot. I have one radial brake and it's a vais. I will be replacing it soon. It does a good job at recoil but man does it toss stuff up all over everything.

I get to shoot a few diff brakes on customer rifles. So far nothing comes close to the Pain Killers. I personally will not use another for my rifles. Been there done that and paid twice.

With all the muzzle brake threads I have come to the conclusion that there are 3 or 4 good ones on the market and the rest are mediocre in comparison. They all seem to reduce recoil some. So when a person gets a brake and it lessens the recoil on their rifle it seems great. They just have not experienced really good recoil reduction.

The small pain killer brake punches above it's weight in terms of effectiveness. The best compact brake on the market in terms of size, weight and efficiency

For my 338, I went with the Terminator T3 over the APA fat bastard due to it's smaller size, lighter weight and greater effectiveness. That said it was nearly double the price of the APA.

Home made allows one to test a lot.

Thicker walls work better than thinner walls.

Angled ports work better than perpendicular ports.

Minimum bullet clearance is best.

Radial ports are good for off hand but not prone.

I have a Terminator T2B on my Model 70 Laredo LRH 300 WinMag and its a blast to shoot. When you pull the trigger it basically just sits their with the 180 Accubonds over 79 grains of H1000. Just remember all breaks are loud! I have never wore ear protection while hunting just when practice shooting. You can bet the next time I take it hunting I'll have some kind of ear protection on.

After being blinded several times from dust and snow shooting from the prone I'll never put another radial brake on rifle period.

They need to be bored to the correct note size and indexed to be square to the action/timed. They are a slab style brake.
