I took it one step further and added a 16oz recoil supressor to the buttstock of my rifle, as well as a break.
I'm not recoil shy but I do have disk problems in my neck and they don't need undue agrivation.
My 300WM I only use for stationary hunting too so I don't care what it weighs, currently it's 13.25lb unloaded.

I too have a plate and screws in my neck and my Tikka Lite in 300 wsm causes me problems, I want to switch to a Rem 5R in 300 win with a break, I will wear ear protection, but I need to know the smallest most effective break, I will probably be buying the 5R 300 win with 24 inch threaded barrel.

I put a titanium Elk Meadow brake on my 24", theaded, 5R 300WM. I never sent my rifle out. The brake was stepped down to the dimension of the barrel and supplied with turned, peel washers so I could index it. It took about 10 minutes to line it up. I intended having it eventually turned, but the seam is barely noticeable, so I haven't bothered. It is one of the better brakes I have used. No dust signature, little blast, and less recoil then my companion 308 5R with no brake. It's worth looking into.

I recently put a Badger FTE brake on my 300 win mag. I had no idea it would reduce felt recoil as much as it does. It has lighter recoil than my 308. The noise also is not bad with proper ear protection. Great investment, great way to start a New Year!

Happy New Year!

As I mentioned on this thread my Browning A-Bolt has a BOSS muzzle brake that came with it.

But for my long range competition rifle (HS Precision .300 Win. mag.) I'm getting a muzzle brake/suppressor combination. I'm now trying to find out which titanium suppressor has the best muzzle brake.

I will literally pay someone to close this thread..someone, anyone, please...all the possible brakes and opinions for that matter have been stated...I just may jump off a cliff if I see another response

My installation of a muzzle break was valued. I installed a JP Large-Profile Compensator on my .308 and .300 wm remi 700's. It just makes shooting and hunting that much more enjoyable. Follow up shots and spotting shots are made easy with the installation of the break. I enjoy the JP because it does not disperse shock downward but only out to the sides and up....the .308 kicks south of my .243 and .300wm just north of the .243.

On a side note...
I have read that several of you don't wear hearing protection while hunting, whether hunting with a break on a gun or not,, you should really reconsider that practice...that ringing is permanent hearing loss.
I'm not trying to ruffle feathers, (or sabotage the thread), however your hearing, just like your eyes aren't disposable. There are countless of products out there that are electronic earmuffs or buds...heck I just wear one foam earplug then put the other in right before I shoot ANY of my guns. Think about it.

Yup, same experience I've had with my JP on a 7RM with sporter barrel. 9.4lb gun recoils a little more than my 8lb .243. Groups became better, and consistent. There are solutions to the sonic issue.
