She handled that very well. I have two daughters also but they are a lot younger 7 and 10. My oldest can hunt deer next year so I'm really looking at getting her a rifle for hunting. I'm sure your very proud of her. My oldest daughter is named Makenzie too don't know if it's spelled the same but sounds the same. My daughter wants to go deer hunting too. Cool good job on raising her.

My daughter and I were hunting in CO 2 weeks ago for second rifle season. While I was down in a canyon quartering my elk, she was up on top, deer hunting the last day of season. While moving through some thick timber between two areas of interest, she came up on a lion in a small opening (16 yards) that was not afraid of people or backing down. She did all the right things trying to scare it off, but it came at her, closing the distance to 8 yards and preparing to pounce when she finally was forced to defend herself. Amazingly, she caught most of the encounter on video and audio. The Game and Fish officials said that there has been more aggressive mountain lion encounters lately. Aggressive encounters are rare, but if anyone is hunting in lion or bear country, be aware of the precautions you can take and the right responses for the different animals and be sure to educate your kids about the topic. I'm sure glad I did. This encounter could have ended much worse.

Holy cow so impressed with the maturity, poise, coolness under crazy scary pressure and having the control of her emotions throughout the encounter is mind boggling.

Dad: Congratulations to raising such a poised young woman that you can see that will do well in life. +1 on educating and preparing her for what most would think is an impossible encounter but you made sure she was prepared and it showed. I can't even imaging the fear you must have felt when you were told by your daughter what just happened and bet you almost broke her ribs hugging her!

Every outfitter should show this to their clients and it should be on every State mountain Lion page on what to do and how to do it and survive.

The old adage : "Preparation leads to success" is well founded in this encounter for sure!

Fantastic young lady/outcome-thanks for sharing that. Good job dad! She did us all a favor taking that cat out too. 52 years hunting and only seen one cat-when they stand there in the open like that something's wrong-shoot it!

Along with everything else, I give her props for throwing her phone down to get in defensive position with the rifle rather than trying to get better footage. Footage to post on social media does little good if your dead because you didn't properly defend yourself. Seems like common sense but many kids lack that these days
