How bad is the 7 backcountry?

Maybe 15 years ago I worked in the off-season (work is a strong word, traded time for discounts and product) for a guy who did custom loads for a now offshored bullet company. Got to get in on a few pressure tests, was mostly a fly on the wall. Remember the sensor glued to the barrel was one time use, and at the time felt expensive (probably was to a broke grad student).

15 years later I've wondered if the pressure sensors tools have become more common like so many other electronics?

No, I never even heard of it till 2012! It was a slow promotion that worked, not an overnight success.
I remember a big stir before that around 2008-2010. Prior to that 308 was possibly the most popular cartridge, but all of the sudden 6.5CM was the new fad. It is a good cartridge, I do shoot it. But I still find the 308 to be a great cartridge and shoot it also. I'll be curious if I keep shooting 6.5CM after I get my 6.5PRC built. I have a few Hornady dies, some I got in trade, They're ok. I have one micrometer, a non-clicker.

I really think the success of the 6.5CM was in part due to it only requiring a barrel in the LR-308. Those semi-autos dwarf the bolt action market. Same story with the 300blackout.

At the state range that I used to frequent and at my club range, AK/AR style platforms outnumber " traditional " bolt actions 3:1, maybe more. Dedicated precision range rifles ? I hardly ever see them. Then again, I'm retired so I shoot during the week. Might be at least a little different story on the weekends (?).

In the early days of the 300 blackout, California was going through yet another brain fart on shouldering a short barrel rifle, even though the ATFE had ruled that the pistol brace wasn't an SBR. At the range I frequented (Metcalf) the RSO would watch me and claim I shoulder'd the brace, but I didn't. I used a cheek weld. This is all so silly...the ATFE ruled on it and it had been in effect, but now Dettlebach is trying to take it back.

I contend that because of the mass numbers of AR-15 lowers, the 300 blackout was a huge success, it's only a barrel change after all. And the same holds true for 6.5CM, IMO.

In regard to hunting. The 300 blackout is a great cartridge for short range. Some folks do stretch them out and many do use them for feral hog eradication, but it's really not a very powerful cartridge and I feel it's best for home defense where subsonic rounds may not make it to your neighbor's house if you had to use it.

6.5cm, OTOH, is a great hunting round. The 6.5 PRC is almost the same cartridge nowadays. A lot of people don't care for 6.5 PRC any more than they do the 6.5CM. I guess I'll stand by the man bun, both 6.5CM and 6.5 PRC are fine cartridges in my book and are very capable hunting cartridges.

The train has officially run off the tracks.
