Just realized I didn't even post any pictures of the actual rifle.

That's mighty sexy look'n - solid with nice lines. Weight? Looks like that barrel profile could be bored out to a howitzer!

It's 12.2 pounds barrel is still over 1" at the muzzle and is the old Winchester #4 octagon pattern.

I have 2 30-30's, one is a 1908 Winnie Model '92, my Grandfathers I inherited, and a Marlin (original) 336 Stainless.
In both, the Winchester branded brass has always worked best due to the thicker (relatively) rims. The 1908 '92 has generous shoulder dimensions, so brass growth there has been an issue, same as my 1906 44-40, dimensions are generous, both need careful sizing and semi false shoulders to keep cases from stretching.
The only other brass I have used is Remington, it's fine in the Marlin, but not in the '92.
I have a heap of Starline brass I was given, but haven't used any to date.

Well, got some quick testing done today no thanks to the weather but believe the problem is fairly well solved. .142" group at 50yds 8fps extreme spread at 2680fps avg. Not too shabby for iron sights id say!

I've always thought about doing some loads for the marlin but I don't shoot it enough to bother really. Basically a bush gun
