More powder lately, but the prices! 😮

Besides the obvious benefits of reloading (consistency, accuracy, and just enjoying the process) one of the biggest joys is appreciating that, at least for now, CA does not include reloading components in the ridiculous 11% gun / ammo tax. I hate the thought of giving the state government any more money to **** away...

The shelves are well stocked with 1# powders in western MT. Bought N555 for $56.00 on Tuesday.

I stopped at Cabelas in PA after the Harrisburg show, They had a decent supply of Hodgdon powder but the prices were eye opening. I wanted to grab an extra can of RETUMBO but at $70 I just couldn't rationalize the purchase. A few of the jugs were priced at $400 a piece.

I bought a new toy for my Golden, some fudge for my wife, and I left. LOL

I would have choked years ago for what primers are going for today, but last week I was all over it for being available even at $109.

Cost offset of buying factory over reloading at same pace (round per round) it's cheaper in most all cartridges including pistols. Sure, it sucks! In most instances you can reload 2x to 10x as many than buying factory. 338lm is the most costly per round that i reload for. Bought factory rounds @ $1.47/per and can't buy brass at that cost. If you shoot an abundant amount you're still better off. If there was at least a steady supply of large rifle primers in all 3 flavors it would be a help.

It's a real eye opener when you look at price stickers on your old stock and compare that to today's prices. I have some very old stock that my dad left me. Mostly bullets. I find that humorous when I see those prices. Wish I could go back to the 70's.

I'm thinking the reason we are seeing more and more powder these days is because of the ridiculous prices being charged for it. If it was reasonably priced, it would have been sold, but now it is just sitting on the shelves with their high price tag until someone comes along that desperately needs it.

Supply is back up; if demand would subside just a bit ( be patient) then pricing will lower. I don't expect it to get to pre Covid levels BUT 20-25% reductions could be possible.

Personally unless there's a component I m nearly out of then I m not buying. IMO now's NOT a time to build up a large inventory unless money is of no concern. To each his own.

I agree. We need to be patient and let the market stabilize. It's all about the law of supply and demand.

I am heading to the grocery store today. I will most likely spend an amount equal to 8lbs of powder on this trip. I also am looking for a vehicle for my wife. Retirement seemed like a good idea a few years ago. Not so much now.

A number of PRS competitors switched from Varget and H4350 to N140 and N150 because of availability. Now sticking with N140 and N150 for lower price.

Varget for $67/lb. Most Hodgdon is $65/lb...somehow I think I'm supposed to be happy about that. Since we can buy components over the counter in CA, I'm a sucker when I see powder I can use. I see H1000 for $66/lb. I admit, I'm a reloading components hoarder.

I honestly never thought I would see the day when Hodgdon costs more than Vitavori...but Sportsman's Warehouse is selling N570 for $65/lb.

Wouldn't it be a great thing if D. JR. and Eric Trump (shooters) got involved in forming a worthwhile beurocracy to look into benefits for U. S. shooters hunters and all firearms related activities. Shooting used to be a national pastime accompanied by the Ladies and Men dresses in their Sunday best, akin to an ice cream social. Remember the days when an NRA Sticker was seen on cars and many trucks with gun racks in the rear window? At age 10 I transported my Marlin model 57 lever .22 on board a greyhound bus with the barrel sticking out of my suitcase, heading to a friend's house, no one got excited at all.

I was born in California. I swore I would be one of the "last man standing" but then I got swatted. I left in 2019. I'm still getting tax bills from California for dates I didn't live there.

It is sad that powder prices have basically tripled or worse since I last bought 5 years ago. I have an 8lb Varget labeled below $200.
