Montana is not suited for wusses ...

Early this AM it was minus 26 F at our suburban settlement just SW of Missoula, MT. I peered out at our back yard and there were 6 white tail deers bedded down, nestled up against a berm of leaf rakings. On the other side of the yard there was a blue Bud Light container, debris, that had blown into the yard.

I am real olde & move at a careful, measured pace & decided to scape off 2 inches of powder snow from our drive way & walk in front of the house. It was minus 21 F then. I used the steel edged plastic shovel like a hoe to scrape off snow, in places, that was packed down by foot traffic. The scraping annoyed the deers and 5 of them decided to move out. The 6th deer, a big doe, stood about 30 feet away and glared at me. I apologized and moved back into the house hoping the deers would return; they did not. An hour later, at minus 20 F, after a cup of coffee & whole grain wheat toast & honey I finished the job.

Past experience shows when sub zero temps warm up to plus 20 F it seems warm.

I lived in Juneau AK for 2 years. Cold weather temps varied in the general area. At my den, about 7 miles north of town & 1 mile east of coast line it could be minus 20, at Auke Bay where I worked it could be 0 F, mid way up the Mendenhall valley it could be minus 30 F. The olde native American settlements were located near Auke Bay.

Move to Michigan and have it all. High 90's with almost 100percent humidity all summer and wake up to new snow everyday when it's cold. Looks like we are gonna be single digits next week before wind chill ourselves.
With the lake having no ice and still being warm I bet we get some decent snow fall
I hear ya Snox801 I haven't had much power most of the week . They say by late tomorrow it should be going ..I'm ready , I'm getting tired of Mountain House meals.

One of the things I like most about Long Island is the climate. We get to enjoy all four seasons without any of the extremes. Today it was 57 degrees. Summers are hot but not brutal. We haven't had any snow in two years but that's rather unusual. Temperatures are virtually never below zero.
Did you guys see any weather this past week? I thought I'd heard that there was lots of storms in your area?

Ya but you still have to live in Ny. Lol I'll take frost bite on my privates over that. Plus if I spend an hour in the car I want to know I went more than 5 miles. I hate Long Island. Before you ask yes the whole thing. lol
You sir are more a man than me.

I suspect that may be one of the reasons sooooooo many people live there!

I'd rather have brutal seasons than 1/10 of your population…..in our entire state! 😉 memtb

It really doesn't matter? After about -20!
