I don't generally plug mine in unless I know that it will be colder than -20 F and I will be using it. If I used it everyday…..I'd probably put a timer on it to heat it for a few hours before needing it.

We run diesel engines in a few vehicles and in the large boats. Even with our moderate winter temperatures, the block heaters are always connected. Cabin heaters in the boats too.
It will be in the twenties at night for the foreseeable future, but that's about it.
