Mile shot

No, as it walk through the aspens I was able to get 6 shots off in the two minutes I saw bull elk move 30 yards. My spotters could not see at that distance where my shots were hitting, but that it was still standing. Not until I drove the 1-1/2 hours to the other side of mountain and processed did I know how many hits and where. When it fell it was out of site. It is my longest to date. 20 over 1000, 5 at 1100-1200, 1215, and 1322 kills. 22 years doing long range. I have photos and video on face book of the event.
Maybe I am just dense - but I don't understand your "no" response to my comment. I asked the "did the elk take 5 shots to vitals before it fell" and your replied "no" and then you went onto explain you took 6 shots as it was walking thru aspens and when you got to the animal there were 5 in the vitals.

Congrats, I'd like to see some pics of the Elk and where the bullets hit and how they performed

What he said here. I don't have Facebook either. I totally like to see the elk
I would also like to see pictures of this. It seems strange that you posted it on Facebook but not one picture of the rifle, elk or you with the elk? I'm sorry if I sound skeptical but I guess that's the way I am.

With my 338/378 Weatherby Magnum I took my elk at 1730 yards the second day of Colorado's three season. 6 shots off with 5 of the 6 were vitals.
Im curious as to 6 shots on one elk withthat big bullet.I know its right at a Mile. (about 18 feet shy) But dang..All5 in Vitals is good shooting. But wny so many?
HellIshot one with a 270 Win and 130gr Silver Tip and he took 3 steps and rolled down the hill. Although mine was about 450 Yards.
Awesome story.Congratulatio s fora good killand a nice Elk.

Or at least the bruising where the 4 bounced off!!!
Went right through, at less yardage the Serria match king expand really well. First photo was a pass through the second in the shoulder out the lower neck , third was a pass through. There was another pass through further back middle of elk. The last shot went in the back of head and out eye. But he was walking dying

The bullet in the first photo came out of an elk I shot at 1322yds. in Colorado. The others came from an elk at 1215 yd. The Serria match king 300 gr. expanded well. I was hoping to retrieve bullets from the 1730 kill but after completely skinning all passed through.

Why do you think the most expert SNIPERS in the world use SMK as the bullet of choice not only for accuracy, but to execute the shot or the shot executed!
Some Hunters can take game a distance.
I knew a State Champion Target Shooter that was chambering his own barrels back and making his own wildcat reloads in the 70s. He also hunted Elk at distance. He purchased a Soviet Union Range Finder in the early 70s that weighed 30-40 lbs and also had a spotter with him. He harvested Elk out to a mile when almost all hunters had no way or ranging that distance!
Today with all the technology, a lot of practice and someone super dedicated can ethically harvest an animal at one mile.

A little more info please ! Rifle, bullet, load info?? I shoot a .340 Wby, but you certainly have a little more horsepower than I do.
338/378 Weatherby mag, Baer 338 chambered, Bat Machine action, Kruger fluted barrel, 15 lbs total. 300 gr Serria match King, 113 gr. Rel 50 set overall to 4.00 length. 3080 at the muzzle. Zero at 300 yd. 5223ft-lbs at 300 yd, 1224ft-lbs at 2200 yard.

Good shooting! Bulls can be tough, especially when bullets do not expand much and pencil though. However, we've seen elk take several large caliber hits at much, much closer range, and still take a little time to lie down. Then, there are those one shot and DRT hits.

We practice on 20-24" gongs for 1 mile hunting, and it really hones one's processes.

WoW practice at a mile! I used to shoot 1000 yards just to check the trajectory scale. But after many years I totally trust my scales. What is your rifles caliber? What is the cost of the shells?
