I am Swedish but lives in Norway. I strongly think about moving back home after I saw the Norwegians response to a disease with a 99,7% survival ratio.Oh. I feel bad for people who live in places devoid of freedom. We are on a downhill slide though, and will be right along. What little we had left was virtually handed off recently. We will be paying 93% income tax and bowing to an autocrat in no time.
They have posted a sign on the outer door this Easter to avoid that people go to their relatives or similar.
The sign says:
>Do not have visitors
>Do not visit others
>You can have a fine if there is more than two visitors in your home.
As a comparison, in Sweden, people can not get a fine for not wearing face masks, and more than 10% have already had COVID. No one is scared for COVID or about getting fines.
This sign made me extremely angry when I saw it. But the worst thing is that the people here likes it. Or at least they say so - you can see that the parking spots outside are very empty. I guess they went to visit their families anyway.
I was not able to exit the country and visit my family in Sweden (some hours drive with a car), as I would then have to sit 10 days in a quarantine hotel (and pay 500 USD for it) once I get back to Norway. Regardless if I test positive or not. So they use a quarantine rule to effectively ban everyone who cannot afford to either spend 10 days in a hotel which you cannot leave - or for the ones who cannot afford to spend 500 USD.
I was considering getting a Norwegian (dual) citizenship this year, but I will skip it.
I have some American friends and have talked to people working in Tennessee (my company have offices there). Seems like they all agree on your comments regarding the American developments. And me too. I follow it closely. But it seems like the whole western world are becoming less and less democratic and free. I had big hopes that America would save our asses (again). But now it seems like the US will rather lead the way downhill.
