MARCH 3 - 24 x 42 The perfect mountain rifle scope?

FYI regarding the Tract Toric scope.

I really like this scope, especially for the money. Excellent ED glass and build quality. Wish it was on my Ruger Precision Rifle for competition. But... it weighs 34 oz.!

The March 3 - 24 x 42 weighs 22+ oz. If I used the Toric scope it would negate the weight savings of that 'spensive Browning carbon fiber stock. It's all about weight for this geezer.

A Tract rep was taking advise about their new 30mm scope a year before it came out. Everybody on their said they needed to make one in the 24oz range or it would be worthless to hunters. They came out with a tank and now nobody wants to buy one for the reasons you state, idiots.

js,
Well, ya can lead a horse to water...

If Bushnell could shorten their Elite tactical 4.5 - 18 x 44 (a couple more lenses for that to be possible) and lower their turrets they might have more takers for hunting.

I can't see a 4.5 - 18 x 44 being much of a tactical scope unless it's on an assault rifle. And they have other scopes for that purpose.

How about an Elite Hunter line so we don't have to buy the Chinese made Forge scopes?
Make Elite Hunter scopes lighter, shorter and with lower turrets. They would sell.

Maybe the 22 ounce 4 1/2-30X50 didn't sell. It's only 13 1/4" long.

After looking at the very nice Nightforce ATACR 4 - 16 x 42 F1 I still think the MARCH 3 - 24 x 42 is the best option. The MARCH is lighter by about 10 oz. and about the same length and has a higher magnification range. The lighter MARCH weight likely mostly comes from its having a 30 mm tube as opposed to the NF 34 mm tube.

Likely both are the same general quality level with plusses and minuses on each side. Both have the option of illuminated reticles and both have good mil reticles (& matching mil turrets).

Both are priced very similarly. It's easier to find a NF with a lower street price so likely the NF can be had for hundreds less than the MARCH.

I've looked at the Leupold VX5 scopes in this size and found they have only a duplex reticle and the "illuminated" reticle is only a red center dot. Leupold needs to make a REAL mil/mil VX5 for mountain rifles.

I just put a Mark 5 on my rifle 5-25x56.It is larger and 30 0z.But 20 and up it is clearer than my March F,and was alot less $$ Eve at wood lot 400 yrds behind house overcast barb wire a blurr in march with, leo I could see twist in wire and aspen bark was brighter, course it is 56mm Parallax much better also

One the best HP shooters in USA runs one there where 6-7 in KO2M.Ive shot lots of game with mine .Son and I took 5 animals this year with them 5-600 yrd shooting.Well see how this one does,I run my stuff hard

I have owned a 3-24x42 for a couple of years now. It has functioned flawlessly! Glass is clear. Movement is perfect. Trust me when I say, LOOK AT THE 3-24x52!!! The eye box is very unforgiving!
