Magpul Hunter 700L w/Magwell, Chambering issues

I recently got a Magpul Hunter 700L stock with the LA Magwell to mount my Rem 700 ADL .270win in.

I noticed today while working up rounds that when I used the Magazine to chamber rounds they were hitting the lands, but when I didn't chamber from the magazine they wouldn't touch the lands. This was with 145 ELD-X bullets at COAL of 3.4". So I started watching them chamber and noticed that the LIPs for the Magazine extended so far forward that the round would stay at an extreme angle while being pushed into the chamber and it would jam into the top of the throat at an angle. I could see drag marks on the bullets from two lands where the bullet was twisting against rifling with the bolt rotation.

Anyway, I had to shorten every cartridge to 3.35" before they would chamber properly. Now I will need to file off some length on the Magazine lips if I want to load rounds longer.

I am not very impressed with this stock setup. It is heavier then I expected and not very comfortable in the prone position... the butt feels low and the palm feels like it is trying to put your trigger hand in an unnatural position.

Has anyone else had experience with the set-up? Any tricks to fix these issues, or any others I haven't ran into yet?

Interesting issue. I purchased the SA version and perfect everything. I know that doesn't help you but I had a couple of technical questions that I called Magpul about and they were great to work with and explained a couple things for me that I wasn't familiar with relative to the M Lok system. Your mag should easily handle up to 3.5 according to their website so if there is a feed issue I bet they can help pinpoint the problem for you. Yes the stock is heavy but I knew that from their website weight listed and without mags so it is heavier than my OEM 700 polymer stock. But the rigidity comes with a price of weight in these types of materials at this price point. I look at it is lighter than my Sendero! I am little bigger than most shooters so I like the bulk of the palm for my big mitts plus the adjustability of the LOP. Give them a call and I bet they will help you.

I ended up bedding my recoil lug to finally be able to get it to shoot. Had to do some file work on the mag to be able to squeeze out a little extra coal, but it didnt matter in the end cuz I bought the wrong timney trigger and it doesnt work with magpul bottom metal, wont fit inside the trigger guard, so I had to switch back to factory mag which really decreased my coal. So I'd say I agree with everything you said, but for the price point it serves a purpose. For a person who just wants 1 rifle and a little bit of diy upgrading st a bargain price it should be fine, but for obsessive people like can be found hanging out around here, it's probably not gonna satisy
