Magnum AR Project

It's a pretty cool project, but... I think I would have gone with the .300 RSAUM and stayed with bullets in the 175gr class and underweight keep the cartridge in the .308 Win length. Just my 0.2 Cheers

he will build a "what every you want cartridge" and possibly a longer barrel if you want? certain brass and cartridges have been tough to find when he started, so...................................it was just a start as new cartridges, barrel lengths and recoil systems is a possibility! i think the saum is a great case even though it's a little slower than the wsm. i have a 7saum in an ar10, but will test when i get some factory ammo or just load some myself? also have a 7-08 for testing and do have 4 boxes of federal 150gr power-shok to do so with.

I still plan on building that 7 SAUM, I've got some brass. I don't think it will be that hard to develop since most of the problems have already been proofed out.

Finally got out and got a load developed, here's what I'm using so far:

300 WSM
Norma Brass
Also Hornady Brass
180gr Berger Elite Hunter
59gr H4350
CCI 250 Magnum Primers
Averaging 2790 fps
COAL 2.955 (about .010 off the lands)

I'm not the best shot in the world, but managed to get a .73" group at 100 yards. I'm going to get some more loaded up and head back out to get some 5 and 10 shot groups. I think with a little more practice and some better brass prepping, I can get down to around .5" at 100 yards.

I got up to 2900 fps with 62.5gr, but slightly worse grouping, just barely under 1". This was toward the end of the day, so I might have been flinching a little bit as well, those loads were feeling a bit stout. No pressure signs though, so I could have kept going if I was looking for speed.

@Masczek , can you make a bolt for the ar's or do you just get them elsewhere? i think you got the earlier 1's from kak, but didn't know if still doing that/this?

Masczek, is your 300 WSM barrel a X-Caliber Carbon Fiber?
Thanks
so far the 1's he experimented with have been ss, but he did state he could do a cf. both were 22" +2" gas as far as i know? x-cal doesn't do any +3 or more or even +1". mcgowen does +1, +2 & +3", but doesn't have as many chambered offerings w/o extra cost. either 24 or 26" is the longest x-cal will do in an ar10 w/ cf barrels, but go as long as 28" with ss. mcgowen stops at 26" w/ both types of barrels (maybe 24" w/ cf?). i have barrels from both places, but no cf barrels from either. hopefully next year i can travel to x-cal and talk about other gas lengths with them?

It's been awhile, but I finally got around to taking some pictures of the carbon fiber rifle. It's 10lbs 11oz (if I remember correctly) as it sits in the pictures. The side charging upper really makes this platform a lot better IMO. I've had 100% reliable ejection with this upper, very pleased with how it's turned out so far. I also tried shooting it suppressed, the ammo I had that day was already loaded a bit hot. It started showing a little bit of pressure signs with my handloads, so I switched to some 180gr factory ammo I had and it seemed to work better. I've got several loads worked up now, I'll be taking it out this week to see which one it likes the best.
This is a CF barrel right?…
