Losing my best friend

Nothing is harder than losing your best friend
My wife and I lost our sweet Millie girl on Halloween to an aggressive liver cancer that took her so swiftly
Millie was a five year old
German shorthair pointer
She was the best in the field and in our home
She was the sweetest soul
It is different when your dog is old and sick you prepare yourself for the inevitable
But to have them taken in the blink of the eye
Is vastly different and very hard to take
Rest in peace my sweet girl
Sincere condolences

So sorry to hear l lost my best buddy in June she went everywhere with me the truck seems empty with out her

If you want longevity....stay away from Purebreds! I seriously doubt it's the food but Inbreeding that's taking them young!
My little rat lived almost 20 years and would have lived longer, But she was blind with no bladder control and you could tell she was in pain. She had four major surgeries in her life, bit by a rattle snake on the nose, had a flesh eating bacterial infection that required weekly IV drug doses. Cost me some serious money, but I'd sold my Silverado RST and bought a crappy old truck to keep her alive and healthy. The picture is five seconds before the fight started. Cat act's like everything is cool, then smacked her in the head. You can see her ears back, she knows the cat well. When I had her euthanized the cat went all over the house looking for her.

So sorry for your loss. I've lost 3 in the past 20 years since my wife and I have been married (she is a veterinarian so they tend to get pretty decent care) and they are all very difficult to let go of. 1 Dobe & 2 Jack Russells.

Have 2 "mutts" currently that came from local shelters as puppies. Can't ask for better companions! This picture is a few days after we picked up the new "intruder". Lol

Sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved companion is a wound that never completely heals. I have vivid memories of every dog where I had to make that final decision. Tears still flow and sadness tries to overtake me. As sad as those days were, I know I made the right decision.
I really appreciate many of the responses presented above. Although my heart ache has been reactivated, I also spent time remembering how blessed I was to have time with some of the most wonderful living things on this planet.

Our last two German shorthair pointers lived to 12 years old, unfortunately Millie died from a very aggressive liver cancer, she had no signs or symptoms until the last 21 days of her life
She went to the vet for her annual check up and shot updates and she was perfectly fine in July
She was perfectly fine in September
We immediately took her in when she started exhibiting signs of illness
Our veterinarian did everything that they could to save her but it was in vain
We are devastated
But I have heard several people comment on dog food, but who knows
