Ok, I like a lot of other members, saw the video made by Vortex Nation on the .300 Super WSM build and shooting results. Long story short, I have a Browning X-bolt chambered in 7mm magnum, with pencil barrel (as I call them) that I never shoot and wanted to do something with. I called McGowen barrels today and I'm going to send my barreled action to them and have them install a barrel chambered in 300WSM. I'm probably going with a Shilen #5 (S5.5) profile 1-8 twist 24" barrel. He told me I may have feeding issues and if I have to handfeed that's ok, however if not my main question for all y'all more experienced than me. What long action caliber magazine would I use to feed the 300 WSM ammunition. I already have a few boxes of the Barnes LRX Bore Rider bullets in 212gr. According to Ryan Muckenhirm with Vortex Optics, their COAL on the ammo they used in the video was 3.465. Thanks for any and all help on magazine choice. I'm most likely going to use a McMillan stock as choices are slim for a decent stock for the X-bolt. (In case anyone asks, I already have another 7mm magnum heavy barrel and 7mm PRC)

You'll want a LA prc mag
Here's what I'd use

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the link, didn't see LA PRC specifically. This is what's listed:
  • – Long Action Magnum magazines hold 3 rounds (~3.770″ internal length)
    – Long Action Belted Magnum magazines hold 3 rounds (~3.770″ internal length)
    – Long Action 284 WIN/6.5-284 magazines hold 3 rounds (~3.770″ internal length)
    – Long Action Standard (30-06/280AI) magazines hold 4 rounds (~3.770″ internal length)
– Long Action Norma/Lapua Magnum magazines hold 3 rounds (~3.770″ internal length)

Sounds interesting and exciting. I am in the process of building a long throated .300 wsm for bullets in the 190 & 200 class bullets in a 9 in 1 barrel. The bore rider option is intriguing but my barrel won't handle that bullet.

Get the long action magnum, not belted mag

When in doubt, consult with the source directly.

LA Magnum is for the PRC/Noslers.

I am using 300prc mags for my LA 300wsm. No issues.

That being said, my Origin SA using MDT mags (2.96" oal) feed MUCH better and allow a pretty long COAL. I am using the 212 ELD-M right now and they are freaking laser beams out to 1350.

What bottom metal do you have for your browning? The Hawkins Hunter M5 mags are designed to run in their bottom metal only and the Hawkins bottom metal is designed for 700 clone actions.

I was going to contact Hawkins about that. I was actually thinking about just getting a Browning 300 PRC magazine and trying that first.

Any reason you couldn't use a 300wm and add throat for this bullet?
With a Wyatt's box extension, you can go to nearly 4".
