I am looking for a good do it all bullet for elk and deer out of a 6.5x284. This wont be real long most of the shots with this rifle will be out to 550 or less. I do reload. I have had good luck with Bergers in my 300 WM. But that is a different animal.

Thanks

I shoot swift scirocco 2 out of my 6.5saum. They perform very well on both elk and deer. I tend to go with a bonded bullet or copper Barnes bullet for the bigger critters.

For elk, I always like to load on the heavier end when it comes to bullets. Take a look at the Matrix 160gr. Should shoot fine in a 1:8 twist barrel.

I really like the 140 hvld in both my 6.5-284s, but used a 140 NAB on a 6 pt bull @ 420 yds. No bullet could have dropped him any faster.

I just got int the 6.5 norma and the 140 bergers are the bee's knees. I shot a .471" group with the first load I tried (53.5 h1k, 140 vld, 3.08 coal, lapua brass, cci200, across the hood of my truck). However, I have not come to trust the bergers on a trophy animal yet, as I have tried them in other calibers and the results vary so much. With that being said, I really like speer bullets. I just got the gold dot 140 to try in the norma. With a .571 bc, if it shoots, I think it will be a great hunting round in the norma. The nosler bt 140 shoots pretty good too, but the bc is horrible, .49, for a projectile of that size, and the velocity is significantly lower vs other 140 bullets

140 grain berger hunting vld has performed well for me. In some instances there has been excessive meat loss but I have never seen any lack of penetration issues.

I shoot 6.5x284 only used 140-grain Hornady Amax not rated hunting The bullet was overkill on deer so got 140-grain Nosler Accubond also use 200 Accubond with 300 Win bag. A real hammer, hold the same group as Amax on paper.

Another vote for the 140 HVLD. I run them in 264 WM, and probably won't ever run anything else.

Bergers are my go to bullet for both deer and elk in everything from 25-06 to 300 rum.
