6 vs 6.5 Creedmoor opinions wanted

I like the velocity of the 6, but the barrel life and larger bullets of the 6.5 Creedmoor.

Basically, I want a super low recoil gun that maintains 1800 fps at ~700 yards with 800-1200 ft lbs of energy at 700 yds.

Lots of people are blowing up the 22 Creedmoor, but let's just say I'm not bought in!

My other thoughts are 25-06 Ackley, 6mm Rem Ackley and 243 Ackley, but I like the simplicity of the Creedmoor. Call it the easy button.

So, between the 6 and 6.5, it seems like a barrel life question mostly, or is there something else. I'd like max barrel life as I will shoot this a lot.

Is there something else to consider? No, I don't want a big gun….i want to shoot a lot. No, I don't want a trainer!
I shot a match with a guy this summer who had 1800 rounds on his 6 creed and was still cloverleafing. If you chase speed though you'll be lucky to break 1200.
I'd do a 25 creed personally but the 6 is solid too

Is this a hunting rifle or a target rifle? Why do you have those energy and velocity constraints? Barrels are wear items like tires. If you are going to "shoot a lot" then barrel life is going to be what it is. The most expensive thing in a singular shot is the bullet!!! You can easily spend 2x on bullets to burn out a barrel for what a top shelf barrel costs.

Split the difference 25 Creedmoor!!!! Or @lancetkenyon 's 25MBK.

6.5 Creedmoor is 6.5 Creedmoor......yawn.

6 Creedmoor is kinda cool but your barrel life will be a bit less.

22 Creedmoor is a coyote round....I said what I said lol.

If you are recoil sensitive and don't want a heavy rifle then steer clear of a full size cartridge like 25-06AI.

Everyone would like to have your guidelines. But reality can be very unforgiving.

I have all three (6,25,6.5) and shoot all three a lot so if you really want to stick closer to your desires, the .25 Creedmoor and the 134 gr. ELD-M will make your day! You achieve the velocity at 700 yards as well as the energy at 700 yards. The only tiny drawback might be your interpretation of 'low recoil'.

Since I'm used to shooting the .375 and .416 CheyTac, low recoil is subjective. I find the Creedmoor cartridges to be just downright pleasant after a day on the desert with the CTs.

I have also invested in the GT cases for hunting and some target shooting. Low recoil but lacking in the velocity and energy desires at your 700 yard mark.

Build and enjoy!

When I have decisions like this to be made, I usually end up coming back to component pricing. In this case, since you ruled out the 22 Creed, I would go with the 6.5 Creed as a box of 140 grain ELDMs is about $10 cheaper than a box of 108 grain ELDMs. 6.5 Creed brass is more readily available than 6 Creed brass as well, unless you don't care about your headstamp being correct.

I agree, I'm a big 6mm fan, but... I think the .25 cal needs more love in the CM, say something like the .25 Caliber 135 grain from Berger, up against the 6.5 cal 140gr. It would be fun at any rate. Cheers
It is a lot of fun when your shooting next to 26" 6.5 CM's on each side of ya,they get that look..... same mil hold at 500m and 650m..
25 creedmoor XP-100 17" barrel
I had another pistol in 6.5CM ,turd,put an 18" 6.5cm on it,meh
Like to here MOOR about 25MKB

I'm assuming your energy needs are for hunting and barrel life is for shooting sessions. If you are anything like a lot of the guys on here (myself included), a shot out barrel means an opportunity to try a new cartridge... or confirm you like the one you're shooting enough to do again.

I've been loading for and shooting exclusively magnums so far (28 Nos, 7 PRC, 300 PRC, 7RM, 300 NM). To try something new I recently picked up a Seekins Havak PH2 in 6CM. I am still breaking in the barrel and doing the initial fiddling with loads, but I can tell you that coming from magnums, the 6CM is a very different gun to shoot (in a good way). Pressure testing from 38 to 42 grains of H4350 (so far) put 10 rounds in nice small clump at 165 yards. Recoil is next to nothing. Suppressor makes it nice and quiet.

Once my 105 Berger Hybrid load is finished, I'll determine what the max hunting distance is and stay under it. In the unlikely event that I need something with the energy to reach further, I'll grab another rifle.

25CM sounds like a good option as well, but I suspect the gains will be relatively minimal. If I'm looking at big game shots >700 yards, I think it is time to grab a magnum cartridge.
