Looking for a good rangefinder.

Thanks for the replies all. I'm still in the deciding phase right now. Has there been a review of the "lesser" 1200 to 1500 rangefinders like Bushnell or Nikon to see what their real world ranging capabilities are? Again thanks for the replies and hope everyone has/had a Merry Christmas......

P.S. The Vectronix is definitely out of my price range but sounds awesome.

Sorry for a second reply; however, if you were to settle for ranging deer consistently at 500 yards, the Zeiss is a GREAT DEAL. it has optics basically as good as the Swaro , is less expensive than the Leica 1600 and has the best trigger release of all three. just not consistent on deer beyond 500, for me at least.

Another vote for the Leica here for your needs, I have the vectonics plrf05 ( it's awesome but if it's out of your range), and the Swarovski 8x30. Leupold RX IV and a Nikon.......I started. Cheap and had to keep upgrading to get the performance I was after, in the end I paid double for my vectronics.....my buddy has the Leica 1600 and it's better than the swaro in the field for sure, the swaro is good glass but the button on top and weak display of readings make the Leica a better choice in my experience.......

How come no one mentioned the new Bushnell 1600? Or the fusion binos? Im just curious if ppl have had bad luck with these? I can range objects that are smaller than deer out to 500-600 yards with my Bushnell 1500 arc but ill be upgrading to something better as well.

To throw my opinion out there I believe my Bushnell would do what your wanting but if your going to spend the money I would still suggest getting the leica 1600

I have had one of the Nikon 1200 gold range finders for about 3 years. I have been able ro range deer out to 900 yards and rocks out to about 1100 consistanly. I have been able to range my gong at 1000 with no problems. It doey not have many options but is extremely easy to use. If there is any fog or clouds forget it it just does not work well. I have been very happy with it so far, that being said I will be upgrading to a leica 1600b to go along with the Lapua Im building.

Another vote for the Nikon 1200. I've ranged deer between 600 to 700 yards. I like it better than my Dads Leica 900 and he likes my Nikon better too. Good luck.

Get the Bushnell 1600 ARC, I love mine and it will hang and sometimes out perform a Leica. A friend of mine has a Leica 1600 we ranged the same targets out to 1600yds and my Bushnell ranged every target it did, I ranged a tree at 1300 that he could not get.

LEICA 1600 OWNERS...... How far can you consistently range whitetail deer?

In what conditions?

In lower light 1000 to 1400 maybe even further.

In mid day full light or sun 800 to 1000 consistently.

Conditions will cause different results. I have even had smoke from distant forest fires interfere. Fog, snow and rain are worse. But for an average you can count on 1000.

This is on flat ground with sand bags where there is nothing behind the animal. Stick that same deer on a hillside and you will get much longer readings but could be ranging dirt if you are not on sand bags.

Well what I mean is how far can you range deer in the worst case scenario. I can justify 750-800 for a rangefinder if it really out performs the 300-400 ones.
